I met my parents and Grandparents for lunch today. While I am with them I get a call from my landlord saying they are gonna put our house up for sale... I still got a year and a half on the lease (we did a 3 year lease)

needless to say I got a tad bit more stressed and my child has been crying since we told her when she got home from school

they say bad news comes in 3's

1 and 2 has devastated me ... I hope 3 stays away

I wouldn't worry too much if he is letting you stay until the house sells. It could be a while in this market.

yeah, I understand but they are doing a short sale possible in a very desirable neighborhood

Plus I am not a fan of strangers roaming through the house lol

I'm sorry sadie and I hope things turn out fine for you - maybe the bad news will stop at 2! Praying for you that everything will work out well!

:'( That would send me over the edge, not so much the moving.

I know this might be a stupid question but if you have a lease can he just do that? You would not be able to break a lease without consequences, can he? (I have no clue to any of that stuff.)

I hope it all works out. I am sure this news was very difficult for A.

If they are doing a short sale, it probably will take a while. From what I understand, the short sales are still taking quite a while to get approved. I understand what you are saying though about people roaming through your house - that would be stressful.

Just trying to make you feel better sadie but here is a short recap of my weekend:

My husband and I are having a great weekend down at our beach house and there is a neat karaoke place that we are able to walk to from our house and we choose to go there for a little while on New Year's Eve. We're having a great time and I get up to go to the restroom. Unforfunately, a guy that was there (we didn't know him) got up to walk right across the street to the beach and was hit by an 18 year old boy driving a Chevy Trailblazer. When I came back from the restroom, I noticed everyone crowding around someone lying in the road and my husband tells me what happened. We have since heard that the guy passed away after getting to the hospital. Bad thing to experience and my husband still can't get the sound of the accident happening out of his mind. I'm sure the poor 18 year old boy that hit the guy is grieving and I feel so very bad for him also.

Then we get almost home today and my husband tells me there is something he needs to tell me before we get home. Our daughter called him Sunday morning and she and her husband found our beloved dog Mac deceased on Saturday afternoon. No sign of trauma, no marks, no nothing.......he was great when we left the house on Friday afternoon. After what we experienced on Saturday night with the guy getting run over, my husband just didn't have the heart to tell me about our dog Mac until we got almost home.

Yep - I'm with you Sadie, I hope it stops with 2! :)

I am so sorry about Mac! :'( Losing a loved pet is devastating.

I can't even imagine your Saturday night. :(

I just want to hug you!!! poor thing!!!

Sending a hug and good wishes your way Sadie and thanks for your kindness Shoe Diva!

Hopefully Sadie, you will find an even better house in the same school district your daughter is in. You know what they say - every cloud has a silver lining!

This was my question as well...wouldn't your lease stay in effect until the end of the three years, or does it have a clause that says if it sells, you're SOL?

BB - I'm so, so sorry. Geez Louise, what a sucky weekend. :(

If they are going to try to short sale, they may be getting desperate. The mortgage may be behind already. If it doesn't short sale, they may let it just go in to foreclosure. Don't let the landlord put you or your family in an emergency situation. I'd be watching like a hawk.

Sorry to hear this Sadie, I am sure y'all find something. Although it dosen't sound good, at least your landlord gave you notice of his intentions. I have heard nightmare stories of where tenants had been paying every month on time only to find out the landlord had not been paying on the mortgage and therefore the property was foreclosed on. I don't know your situation, but it might not hurt to do a little looking into possibly buying the house if the landlord is selling it as a short sale.

As for a lease, there should be an "early termination" clause that protects both parties.

Sadie, this might be a blessing in disguise. You need to buy in this market. Wonder if you could buy that house? As mentioned above, the owner might be in trouble and be willing to sell it right. In this market, you can buy a house and have payments much lower than what rent would be on the same house.

This is the way the lease is on my rental house. The party of the first part (I am the landlord) can terminate the lease at any time with 30 days notice. They can only terminate the lease at the end of the lease period, which is a year, with 30 days notice

Signing a lease, as a renter, is the most one way document you will ever sign.

Do they have a buyer? If not, why don't you offer to buy the house?

If they do maybe the buyer is looking to make it an investment, and is going to rent it out. They may take over your lease, and you won't have to move.

BB, I am so sorry about your baby, and your NY eve. {{{HUGS}}}

we do not want to buy the house. It is to much house for my small family. In hind sight we shouldn't have moved in. plus there is a lot of work to be done and the HOA is way to expensive(we don't pay the HOA) lol

We are also not in the position to buy with me being unemployed and I bought a car last month a few weeks before I was laid off.

I do have a clause in my lease that I have to have/give a 60 day notice . Right now no written notice have been given they were just letting me know their intentions. We were just not wanting to move until after graduation and had our baby settled in college( am I old enough to say that yet)
SO sadly we are gonna rent for the next 3 to 5 years
