I know there are some decent virus protection programs for download. What are some you recommend? This question is for Nick or anyone who has had a good experience with any of them.

Thanks! ;D

I've been using AVG since my antivirus expired in November and so far it seems to be working.

I'm using AVG as well after several others here recommended it to me several weeks ago when I was having some virus issues that the software I paid for wasn't detecting.

Here's your AVG download. It's the latest version and it's free.

Scroll to the bottom and click the free button.

Microsoft Security Essentials is now my favorite. AVG, Antivir, some others are good; but I think this one is bestest.

MS Security essentials is what I use. I got tired of AVG wanting me to buy it. Security essentials doesn't have a paid version so no harassment for pro versions, it's also very lightweight, you can't even tell it's running.

I liked to never got Trend Micro uninstalled. It held on for dear life, but I finally got rid of it :GUN

I guess I'll keep the new one, but will replace it if it starts bugging me about buying the full version. Thanks, Guys 8)

Been using AVG for years! Even used it when I had my computer repair business. Dropped Norton like a hot potato and I was an authorized dealer for them too!

When I "help" friends and family with their computers, first thing I do is remove the Norton of McAfee that is usually installed by default. Stuff is a hog, memory and CPU usage. These days I either install MS Security Essentials or Panda Cloud.

AVG provides good protection, but it can bog your e-mail down.

Never had a problem with that. But then I'm running an I7-920 with 6 GB of ram and Win7.

I agree. Macfee was the worst I think, causing several system to trash the OS during removal.

Norton was my choice for many, many years until they started bundling everything in the anti-virus program. And it kept getting worse and worse with each new release. Finally had to stop selling it completely.

But when I started using AVG, MS Security Essentials wasn't available yet.

AVG is by far the best antivirus, but you must also use a separate firewall program like Zone Alarm. You can pay a small annual fee to AVG and get a well integrated and effective firewall program as part of the AVG suite. I do so and have never been disappointed. AVG also takes about half the computing power of either Symantec or Macafee.

Thanks! I'll check out the Zone Alarm. Still learning here....

Well, I had AVG a couple years back, it did a scan the day, infact within hours before a virus hit on my computer. It does not dig deep enough into the files...

If you want TRUE coverage, a TRUE scanner, for cheaper than you could get AVG or McAfee ($50 each a year, MalwareBytes provides all the coverage they do for only $25 a year!), you can even try it if you want for free, it comes with a 14 day trial and it informs you when the program blocks access. The scanner itself is actually free, no strings attached. I did a comparison one time, AVG scanned no viruses, but MalwareBytes had actually scanned 15 infected objects! I'm not even joking!
