What one childhood vacation ...

There was this vacation we went on that wasn't entirely successful, and I'd like to do it over again and make it work this time.

You see...My mom and dad loaded up me and my sister in the Family Truckster for a trip to Wally World. Lots of things went wrong along the way;

We slept in a tent that leaked
My dad drove off a bridge and blew all the tires
We stopped at my Uncle Eddies and dad had to loan him money
Then we had to take Aunt Edna and her dog, and they both died on the way
And then we got to Wally World and it was closed. So my crazy dad held the guard hostage and made him take us on a roller coaster ride
Then the police came and we all almost went to jail

Next time we need to plan a little better.
Haha! We watched that this morning.

According to my wife, a ot of the stuff in the movie RV could have come from her family vacations.
She is from Colorado and she has a lot of stories that start; when we were on vacation and got stuck....

BTDT. ;)

My parents set up quite a few great vacations. I'd be happy to take any of them.

We camped, because with 4 kids we couldn't afford a hotel.

Went cross country, California.
All the way to the tip of the Florida Keys.
Again across the country. Grand Canyon (5 feet from a lightening strike), Painted Desert, Petrified Forest.
Few more closer to home.

When I was 5 we were going from Kansas to Disneyland. The car broke down in Colorado, and we stopped at this little motel in the middle of nowhere. The owner of the motel had a seven year old daughter with her own pony. Screw Disney. Best vacation ever.

I only recall bits and pieces of one of the coolest vacations because I was only 5. We drove to to the west coast, visited Oregon, Colorado, California, Nevada, and not sure where else. I remember the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Chinatown, and riding the street cars in San Francisco.

We often went to Florida as a kid. Clearwater and Panama City were my parents favorites. Had some good times.

I remember when I was maybe 9 or 10 going to a big cabin that a friend of my dad's owned on the Magnolia River in Alabama. The river is brackish, so we caught all kinds of fish, crabs, etc. We caught hundreds of flounder!

Definitely! I love me some flounder!

Spent a few Christmases At Pinnacle Port in Panama City as a kid ... it was all I knew of the area. LOL (Talk about a shock the first time I went to regular Panama City with hubby!)

And y'all reminded me of another trip ... from Vancouver, BC down to Tijujana, Mexico, most of it in a car along the PCH. Brief stop in San Diego to visit friends and Disney.

We never traveled around the holidays because most of my family is here. So, the family that was out of town would come here. I really miss our big family gatherings. And we spent most of our summers going to various family reunions, 2 in Tennessee, others here.

My Dad was in construction so summers were his busy time. We couldn't travel for long or very far. We made frequent getaways to Cherokee, NC to his favorite cabin beside a trout stream and to Hiawassee, and other frequent lake trips. The Hiawassee trips were probably my favorite.

I'll bet we saw each other there...we were there ALL the time in my yute. ;)

Wouldn't that be cool! My Papa's cousins owned some cabins that sat right at Lake Chatuge with a private dock. It was great!
