What one childhood vacation ...

I had a vacationless Childhood... We just went to the mountains over and over and over and over cause my grandparents have a cottage up there.

I went to the beach once but

anyway My hubby was the same way so we vowed to always take a vacation.

I can not wait to get back to San Juan

We went to Fort Mountain State Park every year.
In fact we became so well known to the Ranger and his wife who ran the park back then, that my mom had their home phone number.
Only 3 times did we go anywhere else, one year we went to Cloudland Canyon and another time we went to Unicoi and we went to Vogel.
My dad liked Fort Mountain, it was and is a nice place to visit.
But I am not sure I would like to repeat any trip, I kinda feel like I have done that.

As you know, my family has ever been the nomad family...we'd take vacations all the time, even though we were quite poor. Camping is a great way to vacation somewhere for not a ton of money (and esp. in those days). I guess the one I'd like to repeat is the time when I was five or six and the week after Christmas (we always went somewhere that week), we went to Key West. I still remember what the marina looked like, and the smell of the sea air, and a fisherman had a baby octopus in a 5-gallon bucket and it squirted out its inky stuff because it was mad. I was happy, and the memories make me happy. :happysigh:

Except now that I think about it, the seven-mile bridge scared me half to death. I remember I hid in the floorboard (this was before mandatory seatbelts) because I thought we were gonna fall through the big ol' expansion joints (this was the old bridge) into the ocean. Yes, I was a dorky child. :D

We didn't take many vacations growing up. I remember one, before my parents divorced, where we all went to Florida for a week or so. My grandparents (dad's side), my aunt, uncle and two cousins. We did the beach and Disney. That was so much fun!

I've been on a cruise since then. Although it was nice, I don't want to go on another one. I was bored.

I can't decide between two, both were Christmas trips. One was our trip to The Greenbrier and the other was our trip to Whistler/Blackcomb. I loved our other trips too but those two really stood out for me above the others.

Well, crap. My dinky Key West vacation sounds cheesy next to that. :'( :D

Was it a cruise to the Caribbean? I wasn't bored when I went when I was younger, but I would be bored now. Go on a cruise to Alaska. And DEFINITELY pay for a balcony cabin. Worth every penny, and if you love beauty, you will not be bored!

Third place would have to be our trip to Assateague /Chincoteague ...the young lady would LOVE going there.

Western Caribbean. It wasn't the ports, or location, that bothered me. It was the ship itself. I was bored out of my mind on that big boat! Couldn't swim cuz every child in the USA was in the pool, couldn't use the jacuzzi cuz every child in the USA was in those, couldn't putt putt cuz all every child in the USA was doing that. The only place I could get away from every child in the USA was in the library...and I can read at home. :BH

Yeah, that's why I wouldn't like it now, either. Also, I'm not much of a "shows" person...real shows with real entertainers that I might choose to go see, yeah. But generic shows not so much. The Alaska cruise was unlike anything I'd ever done. I SOOOOOO want to go back!!!

The entertainment definitely lacked. Actually, now that I think about it, the only thing I liked about that trip was being with most of my immediate family (Dad, stepmom, sister, bro in law, nephews, husband...)! There's the key...trips involving lots of my family are what make me the happiest. :love

:dunno No adult pools, jacuzzi, spa? I would not be happy either. I love kids, really do, I am Auntie SD to many, but on vacation I don't really want to be surrounded by them, heck I send my own to the camps! :)) (Now he begs to go and when checked on tells us to find more to do he is busy!)

I was gonna say oh, that would make me SO MISERABLE, but I realized you're talking immediate family, and yes, I love kinds of vacations. I would love for us all to go on a cruise together...my nephews would be a hoot!

Ditto. I'm not anti-kid, but dang. That's another good thing about Alaska cruises...many fewer kidlets. Lot of oldsters, but I'll take it.

The jacuzzis were supposed to be adult only. I don't dislike kids, but I prefer not to have to deal with everyone else's on a vacation. It just felt like everyone let their kids run amuck cuz they were on a ship and couldn't truly be lost. I loved getting off at the ports and exploring though!

When I was a kid probably the Vegas/ Grand Canyon. I was 18, not a kid, really, but it was our last family vacation.

As an adult, I dream of going back to Cabo San Lucas. MrB and I went for 7 days in 2007 and it was the best, most fun, trip ever.

There was this vacation we went on that wasn't entirely successful, and I'd like to do it over again and make it work this time.

You see...My mom and dad loaded up me and my sister in the Family Truckster for a trip to Wally World. Lots of things went wrong along the way;

We slept in a tent that leaked
My dad drove off a bridge and blew all the tires
We stopped at my Uncle Eddies and dad had to loan him money
Then we had to take Aunt Edna and her dog, and they both died on the way
And then we got to Wally World and it was closed. So my crazy dad held the guard hostage and made him take us on a roller coaster ride
Then the police came and we all almost went to jail

Next time we need to plan a little better.
