Warning...VENT! (I want a new car!!!!!!!)

I'm Floored

Lover of BS!
I am just SICK!

I bought a brand new car 23 months ago. Not even two years. For the record, it is only the 3rd new car I've ever owned. I drove my 1993 Thunderbird for 8 years (until motherhood called), and my 2001 Dodge Caravan for 10 years. Loved them both, and I expected to buy another car to last me until at least my 50th birthday.

Well....fast forward. From the beginning, I've had nothing but issues with my "new" car. It's a comfortable car for me to drive (I'm on the short side). It has some great luxuries (seat warmers, bluetooth, sunroof, sirius, etc.) But from the start, I've had transmission issues.

To be honest, I was afraid to say anything to my husband at first, because I thought he would think I was complaining about my new car. I thought I would "adjust" and that I just needed time to "learn" my car. But the transmission is HORRIBLE! It jerks me constantly. Sometimes on the upshift, but ALWAYS on the downshift. When I say "jerk", it is as if someone has hit me from behind. It's intense. And it happens EVERY stinkin' time I drive!!!!!!!!! Ugh!

We've had it in the shop numerous times since we bought it. Every time, we're told it is fixed, but NOPE, here we go again.

We had it towed last weekend. It wouldn't start. (Just for the record, we've had push button start issues, too, that they've never been able to "duplicate".) Well, as of today (a week into my rental) I'm getting a new transmission. Yes, it took them a week to let me know that, and every day when I called, they were still waiting for "one more test."

They've told me it will take at least a week. But they can't (read: won't) fix the "start" issue, because they can't "verify" the problem! Excuse me? "VERIFY?" I guess I'm just making all this UP!

And I'm over the "consumer advocate" assigned to my case. She has returned only 2 of my over a dozen calls, and each time, her comment is, "Tell me what's going on with your car." I guess I expect too much, because my understanding is that SHE should tell me what's going on with my car!

Now, I'm researching this problem on line and finding there are NUMEROUS complaints about no-start and transmissions issues in my make and model of car. I guess my next google search will be with Georgia's lemon law.

if you are willing to take it to another dealership I could hook you up.

I know you had told me that, but I'm afraid in my case it won't make a difference. My car has been assigned a case number (after the last time they worked on it a month ago) and anything that is done with it has to go through the Southern Regional Office (whatever that is.)

Even though Cobb County Kia is doing the work, they are no longer calling the shots. A tech from this so called SRO supposedly spent two days last week with a flight recorder on my transmission to tell them the next steps.

I've called several different places trying to get help, but because of the case number, I always end up being transferred to the same person.

:(

Lawd, It has a case number... I told them about you when i was ordering the red carpet. I will see if I can still get them to help you and what to do now it has escalated

I know there is a lemon law but don't know how it reads. This is one of the reasons Hubby stays with Honda or Toyota. Now watch, his will quit tomorrow because I said that. :huh

I feel for you, IF. I'm guessing the lemon law wouldn't be much help since it's been 23 months. HOWEVER, I could be wrong, so still investigate.

I learned my lesson the hard way as well...bought a brand new Volvo about 12 years ago...drove and handled GREAT. Had about $5,000 (warranty and non-warranty) work done on it by the time I ditched it at 69,000 miles. EIGHT sets of brake pads, two sets of rotors (neither of these was under warranty, and Volvo's response was oh, that's a shame), plugs/wires/major tune-up to the tune of $850 (which I REFUSED to pay for because they did it without my consent, which I had explicitly told them not to do). The last straw was when it failed the emissions test the first year I was required to have one for the tag. OH - I forgot this part...Chris Volvo (now Nalley Volvo) told me they'd check it out for $350 plus any needed repairs. I took it to Marietta Toyota the next day (after I had it detailed), and traded it for a Camry.

The thing is - I don't know where these companies are coming from by being such arses about it. They could have had me for a customer for LIFE, but no...now they have only bad publicity for me for the rest of my life. (Of course, Volvo is now owned by the Chinese, so even if I loved them, I wouldn't buy one now.)

GAH!!! I'm so sorry, IF. That really bites.

If the lemon law doesn't work out, call the news!! Lol I'm serious.

I had issues with my Jeep. Not as bad as yours, though. The window regulators keep breaking. There are numerous complaints in it.

Hubby had a Ford truck that had an issue that they couldn't figure out and in much fewer visits and with much fewer headaches they had him in a brand new truck of a newer model with upgrades on Ford's dime.

Ford treated my parents well one time when they had a major issue.

Well, the dealership called this afternoon. Good news...they had finished putting in the new transmission for my car. Bad news....during the test drive, the car slammed into 5th gear and stripped the new transmission, so they have to put in a NEW new transmission tomorrow!

I guess I just gotta laugh!

You'd think that would be a freaking CLUE!! I thought you had a Bug then saw Kia... I feel so bad for you.

Will the new-new transmission have a warranty (I hope)?

I only had my oil pan get a leak and it was replaced and no other issue with my KIA. I know we have the same car and I am sorry you are going through these issues.

It was just like my 2008 Malibu. It was in the shop more than I drove it at times. They finally after a year and a half fixed everything but I was so fed up with it at this point. Of course my 1st issue didn't start till 4 months after I got it and while on vacation. I traded this sucker in for my KIA...which runs great. I love the gas mileage for an suv that has 3rd row seating. I just wished I waited to buy mine cause now they are one of my clients and I could have gotten a bigger discount.

If it makes you feel any better they liked the red carpet...

I sent an email earlier in the week to corporate and I am waiting an answer. I was told the person I need to speak with is out until Monday

Typically in a situation like this, once you get someone's attention at corporate you'll get some action.

I've actually heard great things about Kia's customer service so I hope they are able to get it worked out for you. Car trouble stinks - it doesn't matter if it something big or small!! Good luck!
