Time For A New Mattress

Ugh, I hate mattress shopping. Other than a sleep number, any suggestions of mattresses to look at?

We're almost as bad ... right about 11 years, here. Speaks volumes for the mattress we bought way back then but it is sooooo past time to replace.

I love, love, love my TemperPedic. Best ever! Worth every penny. It's 5 years old and still feels brand new.

I hate TemperPedic mattresses. We actually bought one a couple of years ago and sold it a year later. (Now son would KILL someone who tried to take his, he loves it.) The sleep number was a top one in the running until we spent a couple nights on one. We did not like it after all. We had a crap one for the last year until hubby bought the one we really wanted. (We really could not put that money out last year)

The bad thing about mattresses is that you can ask 10 people and get about 10 answers. It is a very personal decision based on your experience and personal need. Also, each company will make the same mattress for a different seller so you cannot really compare pricing. :( AND online reviews really do not help in this circumstance because again it is personal and I have learned most of the reviews on beds are negative and when it comes to returns or warranties. I know that with a good experience you might tell one or two people, with a bad, you are shouting from the rooftops!

I would only go to a mattress store or a store you can lie down on one. Take your pillow and get comfortable for a while. I wouldn't care what people think, it is a large investment, and the only way to tell if it will work. All the beds I had tried were great for the first 10 minutes and then the wanting to move began! See if you like, a firm, firm plush, plush, etc. How did it feel while on your back, side?

Just don't be trying out anything else on those test mattresses.

I'm not allowed back at that one store.

We used to have a Stearns & Foster firm set on our bed. Hubby talked me into a Sleep Number bed and he loves it. Me, not so much. We're going back to Stearns & Foster when we replace the Sleep Number.

We got a knock-off foam matress from Sam's Club a few years ago and it's the best matress I've every had.

But then again I had a water bed for 20+ years and it had to go.

SD, that is what we did. I could not get comfy on a sleep number. I have scoliosis (though I'm sure UM's back hurts way more than mine) and of all the mattresses we tried, the TemperPedic was the only one I liked. We tried several of those, too. MrB is a tummy sleeper, I'm a side sleeper. He didnt like it when he was heavier, cause his tummy was in an envelope. LOL Now he's better that he's lost weight. Me, I'm in Heaven every night. LOL

Ahem!!! MamaHog meant 12 months old. All the sweet love making in this household requires a new mattress every year!!!

Wouldn't have lasted that long if you weren't by yourself.

We just bought our mattress set at Woodstock furniture outlet. We bought our set and a set for our son (he out grew his twin bed) for less then 800.00. We went to the one on Dallas Hwy.

Yeah, the last time I had a piece of ass is when my finger slipped through the toilet paper.

:thumbsup I was so surprised that we did not like the sleep number! I wish we would have had a friend with a temperpedic before we bought. I did like it in the store, lol, but after about a month at home I knew it was not for me. I don't know why but I had more back and hip pain with that than any other bed. :dunno Weird huh? My son totally agrees with you. (and that I am weird) :))

A sleep number bed is a glorified air mattress. :)) (And the gap thingy in the middle is a problem.)

SD ... We're still hung up between firm and firm plush.

No matter what we get, we know it's going to be an adjustment.

We went with the firm plush. Our plush part is tufted. All the way to the bottom of the mattress. This way the plush never moves or bunches. I start on my back and go to my side every night. So far the new mattress is amazing. I have never slept so soundly, ever. I might even try this nap thing you people on here speak of! :))

We've been on a Beautyrest Expedition Plush for the last 11 years. That's the issue on the firm/firm plush ... are we ready for a change or should we stick with the firm plush and count on the newer mattress being enough of a support difference?
