A lot of it is where in you are in the country. They block a lot of sites to prevent viruses. I can purchase internet service while I'm there that has nothing to do with the military, but unfortunately it's expensive as heck. I kid you not, there was one company (an American one) that was charging $1,000 a month in Iraq. What you had to do was get others to tie into yours and you charged them each month to pay for it.
