Holy Cow Criminal Background Checks??

Thanks LisaC, we're still debating as to whether or not we want to work for this GC. I've never, ever seen anything like this. It's a small contract with very little profit in it. I'm thinking I'd like to walk away from it.

I'd lean towards walking as well. I swear, some of these GCs are just the PITS.

And I am sure Cobb is being more difficult on this after the whole illegals working on the new government building(s) thing that hit the news back in the summer or whenever it was.

I know the state requires background checks for jobs that require a license, such as real estate agents. But unless you are contracting for the County or hauling hazardous material, I'm not sure this is legal.

But anyway, yes any police department and the Sheriff's Office can do this. Takes about a minute to do if they are not busy.

See that's what I was thinking. Seems like an invasion of privacy, especially for subcontractors. We are not employees of the General Contractor. we still haven't decided, will make the decision tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the info!!

I've had to do criminal background for non-licensed work before. No biggie. And yes, it is legal.

I would think drug testing would be more important then a background check for a trucking company. If everyone's license is current? I'm puzzled.
