For a job in Cobb County?? Anyone know where I can get these done??

I'm not sure I understand why Cobb County is requiring a private company to do criminal background checks??

That is weird. They did not tell you where to go or who to use?

Half of everything now a days makes me do that.

Well, share it with us, girl. Is the job you're working on for the government, as in jails, etc.? I worked for an architect once and we had to have criminal background checks done for the contractor (that would be you) and his employees who would be on-site at the jail.

Here's what the email says. I won't mention a company because I don't want to get anyone in trouble but I'll retype it word for word.

Cobb County has informed us that they are requiring in addition to the EEV, actual background checks for your guys on site. It's a part of their contract this is normally looked over, but due to some issues on projects of theirs over the summer, they are starting to enforce it. It needs to cover GCIC and NCIC (Georgia and National). *** has suggested just find the cheapest one possible online that covers these, or some people have even been able to go to their local police station for it (about $20.00/person, I know Cobb does it). You just need to send in a couple of the employee's background checks to me (an approximate number of checks for the number of guys on site; IF SOME OF THE GUYS WON'T CHECK OUT, THE BACKGROUND CHECKS DON'T HAVE TO BE THE ACTUAL GUYS THAT WILL BE WORKING THERE). Please call me if you have any questions. 404-***-****.

The stuff I typed in caps wasn't like that in the email, I can't believe someone would put that in writing.

This is not a government job, it's for a private truck facility.

Then what does Cobb have to do with it other than issuing permits and doing inspections? Are you sure these people (whoever sent the note) have a clue as to what's actually needed? (I'm guessing no.)

The last time I had my criminal background checked was at your business, courtesy of Dallas PD :Ninja :Ninja

I remember that Dave!! LOL

OK I was wrong, it is a Cobb owned facility and they are requiring criminal background checks. I'm sure it's because of the problems they had with folks not getting paid at Dobbins over the summer. It's not the same GC.

You can go to the police department and have them done. There are several places online that you can use, but they're probably more expensive. You will need an original, signed consent for each employee you need to have checked.

Thanks LisaC, we're still debating as to whether or not we want to work for this GC. I've never, ever seen anything like this. It's a small contract with very little profit in it. I'm thinking I'd like to walk away from it.
