You know, in the movies they always show people looking through their house for the bad guy, instead of trying to find a way out. I tell Mrs. Reacher if she can't get out of the house, get Daughter Reacher and get behind cover with her gun. Of course call 911 if possible, but either way, let him/them come to you. Let THEM be the ones who are surprised.

Well I did have the drive chain come off my dirt bike once, and when it did, it hit me in the back so hard it knocked me off the motorcycle and left a pretty gnarly mark on my back.
Does that count?
