if you couldn't pick a gun? Think about it. If you had to protect yourself and your family and couldn't own a firearm, what would be your weapon of choice?

A chain is a good idea. It would be good against someone with a knife, but not so good against someone with a gun. You can disarm the citizens by taking their guns away, but bad guys for the most part will have them.

No gun, huh? Dang. I guess I would choose rocks. At least you could throw/launch/catapult them at the aggressors from a distance greater than you could use a knife or baseball bat. Alternate weapon of choice would be trickery (think "Home Alone").
