First 2020 Debate - Official Thread

Yeah, definitely a shitshow and neither man was very convincing to any undecideds. However, Biden didn't pee or drool on himself so he'll likely benefit more from this debate than Trump.
I don't think he did any better than Trump. Some will like Trump's super aggressive approach.

Part of the problem with these debates is both candidates tell lies and very few people will follow-up to find out the truth.

Prediction: There will be ads very soon with Biden saying "I am the democrat party right now" with images of rioting, looting, and fires in democrat cities. Or ads with him saying that and then playing some of AOC's and IIhan Omar's comments.

I'm voting for Trump and 100% hope he wins but watching Hannity right now reminds me why I don't watch hyperpartisan shows much any longer.

It is interesting though seeing how hard the Fox partisan folks are trying to not bash Chris Wallace.

I was really disappointed in Trump's performance in this debate, as he came across way too aggressive and rude. I laughed when Biden said he was the Democratic Party and made the statement violence was not acceptable in demonstrations. Trumped asked him if he had called the Democratic governors and mayors where rioting was taking place to tell them to put a stop to it. Biden's response, "I'm not an elected official." You would think if he thought himself as the leader of the Democratic Party; he would have and that was the point Trump drove home.

This debate did nothing to change the minds of anyone who had already decided who they will be voting for, but I think Trump's aggressiveness may have turned off many independents and undecided voters.

ETA: Biden demonstrated during the debate how Democrats hold themselves to much lower standards than they do their political opponents. Several times he called Trump a liar, but Biden himself lied several times during the debate. One that really caught my attention is when Trump said Hunter Biden had been dishonorably discharged from the Navy. Biden became angry and yelled, "That's a damn lie." The truth of the matter is, he was kicked out of the Navy Reserve when he tested positive for cocaine about a month after receiving his commission. The Navy can't tell anyone what kind of discharge he received because of the Privacy Act of 1974; but it's definitely safe to say his testing positive for an illegal substance was dishonorable service.

Biden also said his energy plan was not the New Green Deal as if he was in opposition to it. A few minutes later he said the New Green Deal would create millions of jobs. Biden has flip flopped on the New Green Deal several times during his campaign thus far. I suppose it depends upon his audience.

Dan Bongino made an interesting point on Hannity's show last night. He said this election is all about getting the bases to turn out and not so much about getting undecided voters. He said that the way Trump performed during the debate was meant to energize his base and that he did it perfectly.

I guess it makes sense that if you get enough of your base to turn out and vote, you don't need as many undecided voters to vote for you. I don't recall Trump saying anything that would turn any of his base supporters away but I do recall Biden saying a few things (not being for the New Green Deal, for example) that may turn away some of his base.

The next debate is a town hall one so hopefully it'll be a bit less of a shitshow.

I am usually in bed by 9 but I unfortunately stayed up to watch this. It actually made me embarrassed to think that these two are the best we have got. If it was not for my love of country and strong hope for a conservative SCOTUS I would change my vote from DJT to an libertarian candidate. Trump showed his ass reveling every reason I dislike everything about his personality. He is unprofessional, rude, arrogant, poorly spoken, self serving, non-presidential, a bully, divisive, childish and frankly doesn't come across as that smart on most subjects. He included very little substance or details as to why he should be reelected. He has had some pretty good accomplishments during his first term but he could not be professional enough to communicate them to because he was too busy being an ass hat. To the hard core Trumpers who think he is funny and impressive I just don't get it and it says a lot about society today. No wonder a lot of these people are rude and self centered so is their idol. As for Uncle Joe he actually gave a much better account of himself than I was expecting. I totally disagree with 90% of his policies and could never vote for him but he came across as a much more likable guy than DJT. I will vote for policy but many voters on the fence may be turned off by the loud mouth jerk who interrupts everyone and thinks he is making a point. I think neither actually won but I would lean toward Biden as having a better night just because DJT shows very little redeeming qualities to be POTUS. JMO.

I didn’t watch a second of it but I predicted Trump would overplay his hand and Biden would do better than expected so he will be declared the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. So far the feedback I’m seeing is that I nailed it.

This is how you act like a leader and win a debate in a few sentences. Behold Renaldo Maximus totally disarm his opponent with wit and charm. You want to know what I look for in the POTUS? This pretty much covers it.
