Concealed Weapons Save Lives

I don't leave my house without my gun. I keep it in my purse unless I am at a place where it is illegal for me to have it. I started doing this after my house was robbed in the middle of the day on a day that I just happened to be gone (those are few). I feel more comfortable knowing that I have it with me. As for my kids, they have been around guns their entire life and know gun safety better than most adults.

I honestly believe that if more people legally carried, the crime rate would be lower.

As for high powered rifles...mine is better, and more evil than his. I have a Russian made Saiga...think AK that shoots 308Win. Pistol grip, M4 style stock, etc. It's for targets, hunting, and killing zombies or masses of thugs when the SHTF. Just because he chose to do wrong with his rifle does not mean I should be prevented from having mine.

so why does an normal person need such a weapon

I like guns, but I don't own one. I suppose I'm too cheap. I also have both doors to the house unlocked, if anyone is wondering. If I leave for any length of time, I do lock them, but not usually if I'm just going to be gone for a short time. I figure that if any thief cases my neighborhood, my house is the last one he would rob: it's half the size of the next smallest house and has a 12-year-old Camry parked beside it. (I rarely drive, so it's hard to tell if I'm home.)

Guns can be used for personal protection, but that isn't the reason for the second amendment. The second amendment is a scary check on government power. I sincerely hope we never reach a point that the second amendment is needed.

It scares me that some people think that laws protect them. A criminal will not say, "Oh dear, it's illegal to carry a gun. I guess I'd better not." Law-abiding people follow the laws, and most of us don't run around shooting people. And, interesting side-note, how many people believe gun-laws will stop gun crimes? How many of these same people believe laws against speeding will stop speeders?

Because they are fun as heck to shoot.
I'm trying to figure out when Americans became so afraid of weapons? No, I didn't grow up around real weapons. But, my nephews had some capguns.

“The second amendment is not about hunting deer or keeping a pistol in your nightstand. It is not about protecting oneself against common criminals. It is about preventing tyranny. The Founders knew that unarmed citizens would never be able to overthrow a tyrannical government as they did. They envisioned government as a servant, not a master, of the American people. The muskets they used against the British Army were the assault rifles of the time,” said Ron Paul.

...and Ron was absolutely correct. There is a reason why the second amendment specifically prevents the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT from taking your gun. The entire history of the world at that time was a list of governments that resorted to tyranny to rule the populace, and that tyranny was always eventually carried out at the point of a weapon in the hands of the government that was not in the hands of the people. That history continues to this day.

Unfortunately, I fully expect some liberal to start talking about the guy that pulled the gun as a "vigilante" or some nonsense like that.

It's actually an old story. It dates back to April 26 and was recently resurrected. Had it actually happened yeaterday, you would be absolutely correct. Brian Ross would have called the guy a Teabagging Terrorist.
