Women in combat makes selective service illegal.

I know there are many women very capable of doing anything that I (or we as men) can do, but I just feel a certain way about women that will never change. There are still "real men" out there who honor women. My mother, my wife, my daughter are my personal examples. I can't help but to hold strongly to the opinion that the very LAST thing I would want would be any of them going into a combat situation.

If someone breaks into my house tonight, the LAST thing I will do is hand Mrs. Colson my Glock and ask her to please defend me. I still believe that people are created in the image of God and have certain "built in" features that neather man nor government can change.

I think of women as equals. I feel that everyone, especially women should be treated with respect and honor. For that, I will never apologize....nor can I support them being thrust into a combat situation when there are still men available to defend them and their children.

I thank thee ;D

So how do you feel about women who serve on the SO with you? Considering the world we live in, they're in combat situations just about everyday. No one seems to have an issue with women being police officers or on the SWAT team - they have to meet the same qualifications as men.

That was said very well and I wholeheartedly agree with you.

They do meet the qualifications, but I still have the same reservations. In short, I strongly discouraged Daughter Colson when she once expressed an interest. True, there is nothing I can do about women being in law enforcement, but I can encourage mine not to participate.

I see local law enforcement as a little different animal than war-time combat. And, I'm not suggesting that women should not be permitted in the military, just combat. Women LEOs frequently encounter female criminals and are very much needed in a detention environment where females are housed. But in combat, the need for females "patting down" and "searching" other female combatants would not happen often.

Sure LE is dangerous, but I respectfully feel the comparison with military combat is apples and oranges.

Female police officers actually do NOT meet the same requirements as men. Men are required to keep their hair cut in a certain manner. That rule is completely nullified for women, they are allowed to pull their hair up.

I concur. I am quite fond of a female LEO put here and I know she's got my back when I have to call the police to my shopping center or storage facility.

Being a LEO most often does not include hostile confrontations with an enemy. There are occasional exceptions but even those do not equate to being front line in a combat zone for long periods of time.

My favorite cousin and her husband are both Sheriff Deputies. We've had that conversation about the hair since she has always worn her hair long.

What about female soldiers like Jessica Lynch that was captured and raped?

Apparently, rape of female soldiers is not uncommon. This report claims one in three is raped. That is unacceptable to me.

There's also a story that she was not raped, that it was made up by the brass to discourage women to join the army.

Back on topic, there will be no way to tell if women can do the job unless they are allowed to try out. To say all women cannot because of physical differences is just BS.

The same thing was said about women in law enforcement years ago, it was said again at the start of the Iraq war. Well, there were a lot of women who found themselves in the middle of a war very quickly. It's all just an excuse to protect the boys club.

Admittedly, I have never served in the military. But I do know something about leadership and command structure.

I see this same as I did the gay issue...the bureaucrats need to keep their nose out of it and let the military commanders make these decisions. They are the ones who best know how to manage the armed forces, not any of us.

Yeah, gays in the military turned out to be a non-issue.... This will as well.
