Windows 10

This is turning into a nightmare.
There is a thing on my screen that says, "Activate Windows", "Go to Settings to Activate Windows".

I go to settings and it says, down at the bottom, "Windows isn't Activated. Activate Windows Now."
I click on this and it takes me to settings, Activation, which says my "product key" doesn't work, enter a product key that came with Windows 10 or go to the store.
If you go to the store, they want $199 for Windows 10.

What is going on?
What have you people done to me now?
Is there a product key on your computer or did it come with a Windows disc with a product key on it?

You might have downloaded the wrong version or bitrate of Windows 10.

BTW...you can revert to Windows 7 for 30 days.

Just upgraded my first PC to 10, no issues with the upgrade, I use a presentation package (ProPresenter) on that one and no issues so far. (Though the company reports some network issues and recommends not upgrading, saw that too late)

Start menu is confusing blend of both worlds, confusing as crap. Hopefully I can edit it once I get my bearings to make it useful.

Gotta figure out how to turn off all the little "helpful messages" like "Upgrade your Microsoft Office that you've paid for to Office 365 that you can pay for every year for the rest of your life!" (Ah... NO)

May attempt my main machine soon. Little worried about trying the wife's PC, she don't do well with change.

Translation-

You need help

And, upgrading the oldest working machine I had was a NO-GO. (2ghz P4 Dell)

Windows 10 check said it would work, machine more than meets the minimum specs to upgrade, it downloaded, started install, got to the verification point, and puked everywhere. Seems that my Northwood Pentium 4 doesn't support an on-chip security based instruction set, no-execute, that was added in during the Prescott refresh that Windows 8/8.1/10 requires to run.

From what I understand, one of the features about Windows 8/10 is that the processing overhead was reduced from Windows 7 requirements. Meaning that, with equal hardware, Windows 8/10 computers should be a bit snappier than Windows 7. And was looking to see if I could verify that, but alas, it's no go.

Wish I could help anyone with the issue of not being able to verify their license, but Windows 8 based computers introduced a bit of a huge difference in how Microsoft verified the licenses as legitimate. From what I have seen here and there, this seems to be an issue that you need your Windows 8 key for and you may have to call the number at Microsoft to remedy.

Apparently, my philosophy of "wait a while, perhaps it will take care of it's self" works better on computers than it does yard work.
All seems to be well today.

Well...I came in this morning and 10 had taken a major dump on my office computer. Had to revert to 8.1, and am re-installing 1o now. Hope it works this time.

Is there a reason behind the problem? ? ?
There has apparently been some of it. MS is working on an update to fix it. Some antivirus programs don't play well with 10

Ugh. That is not fun. So do I need to make sure I have all the Win 10 updates before I install Viper? (You all need to have all these issues solved and answers for me by the end of the week when my computer arrives. :)) )

Always update, but there seems to be a few bugs still in 10. I'm sure they will do a service pack soon to fix them; but some computes will have some issues.

Typically...upgrades give more trouble than fresh loads.
