What are you cooking in case the power goes out?

I'm wondering how I'm supposed to warm up what I am cooking if the power goes out. Hubby said our generator probably won't pull the microwave.
Do you have a fire place? I wonder how hard it be in cast iron to heat in afire place?

Yeah we have a fireplace, but we are almost out of wood. Hubby has been trying to contact a guy he knows for more wood, but he hasn't been able to get in touch with him. He had some wood he said we could have for free if we picked it up. We got half of it (it was a trailer full), but we used it all. We wanted the other half too. :rant

RNG just posted this on FB:

If anyone in Hiram/Dallas/Powder Springs needs firewood I know someone who has 3 truckloads left. He is out of seasoned firewood. These last 3 are unseasoned, 100% oak. $100.00 truck load and he will deliver. If interested let me know and I will get you in touch with him.

Thank you.

As long as I have coffee, water and fire, I will have coffee. The hubby said he can make coffee on the stove for me if he has to.

i have a dish you can warm ( it gets hot hot hot) with a candle so if the power goes out I will just use that to cooked can stuff, soups and whatknots or I will get him to fire up the grill for a hamburger, hotdog or steak

Our wood stove has a flat top. The last time we were out of power we cooked there. We went to Ingles (which I normally hate) because I couldn't stand the crowds at Walmart or Kroger. It ended up being tons of fun since we ran into a lot of friends there. They were sold out of bread, so I bought some yeast and if we need bread, I'll make some. I will probably make it tomorrow any way, just in case. they were sold out of decent chicken too. I bought some frozen breast and I'm going to put that in the crock pot in the morning and we'll have salsa chicken on tortillas tomorrow night. (Ingles had plenty of tortillas.) I'm not really sure why we were shopping, we had plenty of food. :))

Haha! That wood stove sounds lovely!

I have pinto beans in the crock pot right now. (Thanks Blondie and LTD! Lol) and other than that I think we are good to go. All ill need to do is warm stuff in the stove. I just wanted to get everything prepared so I can get the bulk of the dishes cleaned and out away. I don't want to have to boil water to hand wash them all. Not hat ill have anything else to do...

Cooking a big ham right now and maybe a few blueberry muffins.

We have a gas stove and gas grill .... so I think we will be okay.

:thumbsup

I decided to make some boiled eggs too, for egg salad sandwiches.

One good thing about cooking incase the power goes out is, if we do not lose power, all we have to do is warm up dinner for a few nights! It'll give a break from having to actually cook every night. :)

I'm not cooking anything ahead because if the power goes out there's no way for me to heat it up. We've got some cold food stuff in case that happens.

Since it doesn't look like we'll lose power (knock on wood) we're making chicken and dumplings tonight. Can't wait.

I have Blackened Chicken Alfredo in the oven right now, and will be having salad with a little serving of the alfredo (I can't have all that pasta lol). Hubby and the son will be having mac and cheese, green beans with taters with it. And as long as the power doesn't go out, I am gonna make some cup cakes for my son.

Chicken Alfredo in the oven?

Ok, the winter weather needs to clear out or I'm going to be 350 lbs by spring. I'm stuffed, but those chicken and dumplings were just too good not to have a second helping (ok, third).

Yes it was one I bought at SAMs. Frozen meal that you cook for an hour. Hubby loved it
