I totally see you being shy about using them again, but in 5 years I have never had an issue. :knockingonwood: I would advise you to try them again, only with using the Amazon Warehouse stores. I am thinking that might be the difference. (I have used some of the "other" sellers, but just for used books. Never had an issue, but nothing was over $10.)

Oh! and ebay has always scared me. I don't want to buy from just "people." I know some LOVE it, but I never got into it.

I went to apple kicking and screaming... Now I wished I went a lot sooner cause I would have saved tons of money.

They are quality pieces of equipment and all the accessories are made around them. I bought a different brand first too. Then when it crapped out, I bought an iPod and it's still going.

As an alternative...if he has a smart phone, download a streaming app like Tunein Radio or Jango and just stream the music. I do this more than use my iPod now.
 
I was wondering about that, too. I has Pandora on his phone. I was wondering why he couldn't just listen to that while he ran. It's not like he's one of those total music nerds that has hundreds of gigs of music or anything. You know the type?
