I am unsure what you mean by the other shoe just dropped. When I heard of the release of Bergdahl I also heard of the release (in exchange) of the 5 at Gitmo, so ? ? ?

That was in reference to the news cycle.

This story now trumps Shinseki's resignation.

This is a major change in foreign policy
and this release is also against the law.

Wow... this is pretty strange :

There is more to this story than meets the eye.

Gotcha. Hey, it's early.

Which law is it against? I personally do not "get" Gitmo. Charge them, do something with them, but why hold them indefinitely? Do we not pay for that?

President Obama must notify congress 30 days before transferring any detainees from Gitmo.

The guy is a deserter and stated a few times that he was embarrassed to be an American. Yet, he counts on America to save him. Can't have it both ways. I sat next to an Army General on a 12 hour flight home from Kuwait City soon after Bergdahl walked off post. We discussed it in great detail and I'll never forget that conversation. If anyone loses a drop of blood at the hands of those five terrorists, it will be on Bowe Bergdahl's hands.

Yes, I remember there was a great deal of controversy over his "disappearance" at the time,
with his father proclaiming that it did not matter if he had willfully deserted or been captured.

Big difference.

I would like to see him face a court-martial after he returns. I'd be surprised if that happens though as there would be a bunch on the left who would claim he suffered enough over the five years he was held captive.

I've been reading a lot of stuff lately being posted by those he served with. He used to tell them he had been in the French Foreign Legion and used to beat up drug dealers. He spent a lot of time before deploying using Rosetta Stone to learn the three languages used in Afghanistan. They all say he's a piece of crap and did a lot of lying in the emails he sent his father.

With the latest tweet his father deleted, it sounds like his father is sympathetic to the Taliban. He says he grew his beard because of his son. His father has been doing a lot of communicating with an Afghani. It all sounds very suspicious to me.

Ah, now I know why the name sounded familiar. I did not really keep up with this news story and just heard a blurb about it. That really changes how I thought of this story.

Yeah, this whole thing is just getting fishier and fishier. I had to refresh myself on the deets, but dang - dude was not regular Army, that's for sure. And can't remember how to speak English? I should think that would be ingrained.

I am horrified at the trade, and at the negotiation with terrorists. But not surprised.

Cannot verify this detailed account but it is popping up everywhere : (check the comments section)

From what I have been reading today, several troops lost their lives looking for him.

Something stinks about all of this. I wonder if we ever will know the entire story.

Yet an American soldier sets in a Mexican prison, considered guilty until proven innocent all while the Communist Dictator n Chief remains silent.

May God save us soon from this corrupt and evil head of government.

Honestly I haven't kept up with the "soldier" who was just released and I've heard several versions of his disappearance. I think it's best to be cautious before we rush to judgement, I say that only because we really don't know the actual facts. If he has not been officially classified as a "deserter" or facing any charges under UCMJ then he should be treated as any other soldier returning from a "war zone." Crazy things happen in war zones, some people don't handle the stress as well as others, and some people's judgement is impaired. Saying that, if he is charged or classified as a deserter then feed him to the dogs.
