Toddler Injured In Drug Raid...

I somehow bleeped over the part about this being the same people who killed the pastor in 2009. Ye frickin' gods.

Well said, Boss.

Thank you. The problem with the police most of the time is they get too damn excited and in a hurry to take down a a bad guy.

Adrenaline. The investigative work is THE single most important part, that is often done haphazardly. Unfortunately.

If they had done things the way I described, that child would not have been injured because the arrest would have never taken place in the home. It's really stupid to decide to take the bad guy in his home. It's his turf. You have no idea what's laying in wait for you inside at any time of the day.

Kid left hospital yesterday; they are going home to Wisconsin. He will have to have further surgeries on his little face, but he walked out of the hospital and is apparently doing pretty well. Bless his tiny heart.

Apparently he is still doing well, but the family is having a hard time paying all the medical bills and they have asked the county to pay, but they refuse.

Dumb and dumber.

There is a certain way that things have to be done and the county can't just start writing checks and the lawyers told them as much.

Look, it sucks that this kid got hurt but why all of the blame on the cops? You do realize that they don't write their own warrants, right? And unless there is evidence (like in that Atlanta/Neal St. case) that the officers lied to get the warrant, why isn't there hate for the Judge or anyone else? Judges deny warrants all the time. No reason this one couldn't have been.

If it were my call, no I would not have gone in with a no-knock on a single (as reported) buy carried out by a CI. But it wasn't my call and they were granted the warrant.

Did the judge miss all of the obvious signs of children in the house and then throw a flash-bang into a crib?

The team that went in was gong in hot ... the only "obvious signs" that I've heard are the playpen the kid was in and possibly some small stuff around it. (I freely admit that I may have missed some details here.) But are you really ok with a no-knock warrant being issued on so little? That's my point. Ok, so it was a police tool that caused the injury but there were a lot of places earlier in time that could have stopped this from happening. Somebody else mentioned the parents choice in locations to stay (ok, sometimes that is a hard one in bad times) but there was the approval of the warrant.

I'm certainly not saying that there is never a time when cops are wrong but I get so tired of folks neglecting to focus on all of the targets of their anger and frustration and instead unloading it on the cops all of the time.

I don't know, but if I saw a car seat in vehicle out front and toys scattered about I might think there was a toddler inside.

Don't forget that this same department has screwed the pooch before too.

Last I heard, the Sheriff had directed all medical bills be forwarded to the county. However, since the kid left the hospital, that may have all changed.

I actually do believe that was mentioned in the piece I saw but the county wasn't paying anything at that point based on legal counsel.
