The Official Dallas Hwy 2022 Mid-term Election Thread

I was just told that exit polling estimate Walker got 64% of today's vote.

Gonna be very close!

Warnock had a much larger war chest for the run-off. it was obvious by the 4-1 ratio of political ads.

The only positive takeaway is that Warnock was already the incumbent and the D's maintained the Senate majority if either candidate won so overall we didn't lose ground.

We did lose a little ground in that if it is 50/50, they have to fill the committees with an equal number of Dems and GOP. Now they can stack all of the committees with a majority of Dems that can recommend anything they want. The first thing to go will be the filibuster.

Well dang it, so much for a positive vibe...we're screwed.

Now that the results are in I will say that Warnock appeared to have ran a much more organized campaign and obviously had deeper funding which allowed for constant ads. He also seemed to have softened his overall approach after the General in preparation for the runoff. While he still ran some of his older more aggressive ads targeting Walker directly he added several more which came across as less aggressive and more indirect. Ignorant people fall for that tactic.

I hate that Walker lost but it was not a surprise. It was very close though which screams that our state is unfortunately turning from red, to purple, to blue.

As I drive into our precinct to vote yesterday the last thing I saw before parking was three "Vote Warnock" signs. There were none anywhere around for Walker. That stood out to me, why would the people in charge Walker's local area not make sure they had something...anything...to make that last impression. It was a failure in my mind.

Not sure I agree with this. Kemp won decisively against Abrams who has much more of a liberal following than Warnock. Abrams winning would have done far more for liberals than Warnock winning does and she lost to a good Republican candidate. Walker was the only statewide Republican candidate who lost. The Republicans won every other office - from governor to state insurance commissioner.

This senate race, along with some other races around the country, prove that candidates matter. Bad candidates just aren't going to get as many votes as good ones. Walker was a bad candidate. Combine some of his history, parts of which are pretty bad, with his less than stellar ability to communicate and it isn't a shock that people were hesitant to vote for him. A good Republican candidate instead of Walker would have likely rode Kemp's coattails to victory in the general election.
