Super Bowl 50...

Cam is good, he will return. My only issue is if you're going to talk smack prior to the game and run your chops all week then man up and play your role in front of the camera whether it's after a victory or defeat. He made some outrageous statements and failed to back them up. In his defense he had very little pass protection and he had reason to be frustrated during the game. I guess I just expect too much character and integrity when I really should just lower the bar.

We didn't watch the game last night. But, I'm going to defend Cam Newton - he's young and he just lost the biggest game of his career so far. He was disappointed. He will mature and he will be in another Super Bowl.

I'm sorry. I'm not buying the "he's young" defense. He's 26. Biggest loss of his career? yes. But he's played years of football, including college and NFL. His behavior on the field and off was terrible. However, one of his hissy fits actually had me laughing out loud that an ADULT could actually behave in that manner.

I agree he is young and hopefully someone will sit him down and help him mature.
I didn't watch the post game stuff, because that's not what I cared about. I also agree with others that they should leave the post game interviews for the winners, and let the losers have time to recoup. Those of us with kids in any kind of competition type thing knows you don't try to talk to your kid right after the loss, you wait a little bit then you talk with them.

EVERY losing team has been interviewed.

But to me, the media has gotten to the point where it MUST stick a microphone in front of a player and the player is expected to have the same cookie cutter response every week. That's not reality. Cam gave them reality - he was upset and disappointed. Could he have come out and given the usual, "we played hard, but they played harder" nonsense? We can (and do) get that on any given Sunday. For the Super Bowl, we need genuine emotion some times. I think Peyton Manning said that Cam came over and congratulated him and they had a good conversation - that shows maturity.

Many quarterbacks would love the opportunity he had. Many more would be grateful for even a chance to play in the NFC or AFC Championship, win or lose. He was hyped up too much and he hyped himself up too much. No matter whether he returns to the Super Bowl or not, he'll never have to want for another penny in his life. When he gets too old and retires, much like the murderer Ray Lewis, he'll be snatched up by one of the networks as a commentator, and paid BIG BUCKS to boot. I don't feel sorry for him one bit and it would serve him well to start acting like a man, not a spoiled child.

How do you know he wasn't grateful for the opportunity? Sure, he trashed talked, but that doesn't make him a horrible person. And, I don't feel sorry for him, he's a good quarterback and he will do great things, including the possibility of becoming a network commentator or a head coach.

That's great. That's what most of them do. Should they be in their face following every win or every loss? Probably not. But apparently they think that's what fans want to see. I personally don't think they should be live inside a NASCAR driver's car, but they are. At least they aren't eavesdropping with news cameras on the NFL sidelines.

My point is that Cam knew this was coming. He knew it was all part of it. And he behaved poorly. Why can't people just admit he behaved poorly. I'm also not giving him a pass for his age. He has a younger brother who really looks up to him that deserves better. He has thousands of young boys who look up to him. And young children who love him for the footballs he passes out. Does he have some good qualities? Sure. They weren't there on Sunday.

Will he get other opportunities? I hope so, he's a good quarterback.

I have to find it, but I heard something this morning about he walked out because he overheard what a Denver player was saying in a post-game interview going on behind the curtain. I don't know what was said, but it might be better that he walked away over telling the news media what he may have been thinking at that moment.

They were also talking on 680 this morning about Peyton Manning walking off the field a few years ago without congratulating the other team - I guess all is forgotten once the next season rolls around.

Eh, the player was saying the same type of things Cam had been saying all week. But nothing specifically ugly toward Cam Newton.
I guess it is all forgotten. And, I'll probably have forgotten about Cam this time next year. (Except, it will take longer to stop laughing about the hissy fit in the last 2 minutes of the game.)

But, here's Peyton Manning's post game interview from his 2014 loss:

You may not want to watch, it's a sharp contrast.

EVERY losing team has been interviewed.
I understand that. I just feel for EVERY losing team, they should just be left alone for a bit. I also get that there are a lot of players that have done the same thing in the past, and most likely will do the same. Really the post game stuff isn't what I think is good sportsmanship. The fact that he shook Manning's hand and congratulated him with a smile is the true show of good sportsman ship. Form what I remember when Manning lost that one SB he didn't shake hands with the winning QB, and he is still a golden boy. Just sayin, I would rather see good sportsman ship between the players, then worry about the vultures that are the media.
EVERY team talks trash, before a game, every team can lose the game they are trash talking about. While Cam was pouty, and obviously didn't want to be where he was. He could've cussed, thrown chairs and yelled like others have done, he choose to leave. I say good on him.

BTW: The Center is really the most important player on the team, because until they put the ball in the QBs hands nothing can happen.

Scam Newton is a multi-millionaire professional playing a kid's game and he should act like the professional he is highly paid to be and not some spoiled little bratty rich kid. He lost a kid's game, so what? He'll get to play again next season. Not like the police officer in CO what was shot multiple times this weekend by a 17 yoa black male and is now on life support to keep his organs alive while arrangements are made for donations. That officer played a MUCH more serious game, for a fraction of the money, and lost. But he is leaving behind a wife and 2 children. So excuse me if I don't care why Scam is upset!

I am just fascinated that so many seem so bothered by this. :dunno: Not saying here, all over. :))
I think one of my friends posted that the player admitted today that he is a sore loser. Hey if he did I give him kudos for that. Most do not like to admit their short comings.

38 year old Jenilyn is a lot different than 26 year old Jenilyn.
Very good point. I think all of us say things or do things that we later either regret saying (or could have said in a better way) or we change our minds on how we thought of that thing. We learn. We grow.

Wait...strike all of that. He is a guy. Guys never grow up.
