Summer Dessert Suggestions

Thanks everyone for your wonderful suggestions! I am going to print this thread out and keep them. Right now the ice cream & cookies is sounding like it will make the menu.

Ice cream could be even more fun with lots of topping options. Let everyone basically make their own dessert.

Do a banana split with all the fixins. My latest taste of using something in homemade chicken salad or a garden salad is craisins (dried cranberries). Rather tasty and adds flavor. Gonna try a nana split in a day or two using craisins

I made banana pudding the other day with fat free, sugar free vanilla pudding, reduced fat vanilla wafers, fresh bananas and homemade whipped cream. It was so good! I think I may try doing it again with strawberries instead of bananas.

Check out Paula Deen's banana pudding! Easy and refreshing. (don't expect it to taste like homemade).

We've been having a LOT of fresh fruit for dessert since it's so hot. I love simple creme pies or refrigerator pies.

Whatever happened to ice cream? How hard is that to scoop out of the container into a bowl? It's easy as heck!

Remember nepolian ice cream? My grandmother would always have that in her freezer form us youngins. One time I told her I hated strawberry ice cream, and with a stern voice told me not to cross the fine line over the chocolate & vanilla line, and I would be just fine. Glad my other cousins liked the strawberry. I didn't.

I didn't care for the strawberry then either.

I agree.

you could make a banana split cake. It's not light by no means but good.

Only thing is, you have to make it and serve it immed. That's the only downfall, but it's yummy. I do this at family gatherings.

Take ice cream sandwichs, line a dish with them, cut up bananas and put on top of ice cream sandwichs, drizzle with choco syrup, cover with whipped cream, sprinkle nuts and top off with cherries ;D ;D yum yum

Sounds yummy! I make a cake version of a banana split cake.

Fresh fruit with fresh whipped cream is always yummy. If you have an ice cream freezer, make orange sherbet - 1 2-liter bottle of Sunkist Orange Soda, 1 can of sweetened condensed milk. Pour into freezer, stir, freeze according to freezer directions and serve.

Honey, you should have mentioned they were Southern Baptist right off the bat. Just slice a watermelon and let it go! :))
