Second Republican Debate - Wednesday 9/27

I've also stated many times here that I don't yet know who I'll vote for. It seems like if you don't constantly attack Trump here, you're a Trumper. How fair is that?

I'm the guy who is still deciding and listening to many candidates. This division coming from some is what is killing the party.
What division is that? Is it the politicians in the party, those who vote Republican, or perhaps both? If you're hating the division within the party, then look at who is the root problem of it. It's Trump.

I don't think you're a hardcore Trumper, but in another thread, you won't even agree that Trump deserves at least some blame for not getting lasting legislation passed when he was POTUS. I simply don't understand how he doesn't deserve at least some of the blame.

Thanks for making my point for me. EVERYTHING is Trump's fault.

It takes two to Tango. We can't stop Trump from being ugly but we don't have to be as bad.

Like him or not, the odds strongly suggest he will be the nominee. And that means he'll be all that stands between the Democrats and the White House.

Nobody is even attempting to be as bad as Trump...not even close. Let me see if I understand....Trump insults and lies about other politicians EVERY SINGLE DAY. Others point out Trump's lies and insults and they are the bad guys because they are causing too much division. Do I have that right?

Never mind, I know when I'm outnumbered.

Bash away, I won't try to be the fair and reasonable one anymore.

Discussing politics can get heated at times....even over the internet on a forum like this.

GD, I value and respect your opinion and I would agree that you do try to be fair and reasonable in most cases. I also try to be fair and reasonable which is why I most often try to stick to verifiable facts when talking about Trump (yes, I do add in 'carnival barker' at times).

Defending Trump despite all the verifiable 'bad' stuff he does while bashing those that point out that 'bad' stuff is simply not fair and reasonable. Defaulting to an argument similar to "bashing the likely nominee is only helping Biden" before even a single vote is cast is simply illogical and confusing to me. Isn't the primary process designed so multiple candidates can make their case to voters? Voting doesn't even start for another 3+ months yet some are expecting everyone to give up now, ignore all the 'bad' stuff Trump has done, and start kissing his ass. Sorry, but no, that's not how it works.

Now you're going off the deep end. It was never suggested any of us should kiss Trump's ass. There is plenty wrong with him that all of us probably agree on.

But he is getting blamed for some stuff that really isn't fair, and the spirit behind it is ugly. It seems there's rarely a political thread anymore where Trump isn't brought up and bashed, even when it's not even a thread about Trump. It often reads more like P'Com that Dallas Hwy.

This is a forum of free speech, so it's certainly allowed. But I don't have to approve of it.

I probably won't defend him anymore. Let the chips fall where they may.

I'm going off the deep end because I suggested that some think we should kiss Trump's ass? To me "kissing someone's ass" means be nice to them and say nice things about them. Trump doesn't deserve that but you frequently take up for him when others bring up his factual negatives.

But he is getting blamed for some stuff that really isn't fair, and the spirit behind it is ugly.

What have I blamed him for that is not fair?

Since you guys apparently don't see how ridiculous some of what you've blamed him for is, I'm not gonna waste my time pointing them out. They will just be more arguments where no one's minds are changed. Lots of armchair quarterbacking going on. Almost every thread turns into Trump bashing. Seems we've all but forgotten about the good things he did, only remembering (and exaggerating in some cases) the bad.

I get that you are DeSantis fan bois; I like him too but I don't need to justify that by tearing down the guy who is way ahead of him. I'm being truthful when I say I don't yet know who I'll vote for in the primary. If I had to chose a personal favorite today, it would probably be Nikki Haley. But, she has no better chance against Trump than DeSantis has.

Man, it's tough being the logical one.

Most chicken shite candidates with something to hide would skip them. Anyone with character and a commitment to the job would debate any chance they got. You Trumpers raise hell about politics as usual and then support your candidate when he plays the political game. Here is a piece of cake please feel free to eat it.
You apparently don’t understand how politics and odds work today. You also keep forgetting Trump has previously held the office so he has already successfully conquered the preliminary gauntlet once before. With such a lead why in the world would he (or any other candidate with such a lead) give a crap about playing in the mud with the other pigs at feeding time? That doesn’t mean he won’t have to participate in future debates, obviously he will, but now is not that time.

Putting it in the context of sports: Trump gets home field advantage and get a “Bye-week” or two and maybe even three.

Call it what you want but it’s obviously a calculated strategy, and so far it’s working to his advantage. I find it odd that the ones who gripe about how they dislike how Trump talks are the same ones griping that he isn’t talking.

I’ll make it even more clear in case there’s any doubt: Trump is kicking arse and taking names at the moment. Could it suddenly change? Of course it could, but for now he’s the man to beat. Maybe it’s time for some to stop bashing Trump and begin to question why their candidate is doing so poorly.

We have pointed out the good things he had done. We also pointed out the wrong things. I don't find the guy to be trustworthy, and he doesn't share my values. I'm not voting for someone like that. If you choose to vote for him, that's your right, just as much as it is my right to vote for someone else.

I am very aware of how politics work and have always worked not just in today's world. Apparently some of you don't understand I am not willing to over look someones total lack of character/integrity just because they seem to be ahead in some damn poll. By the way DJT is a terrible debater on an intellectual level. He debates like a sixth grader using insults and lies to belittle his opponents without saying anything of value. He is very childish and defensive when on an organized platform. So yeah I would like to see him debate making real points. My feelings on DJT have been made clear on this site so I won't repeat myself. If he is the candidate I will vote for him. I will not and have never voted for him in a primary.
