Second Republican Debate - Wednesday 9/27

Here's one thing people need to think about...

Regardless of what you think about him, Donald Trump has a huge and loyal following. That is fact.

The candidates bashing Trump are making enemies out of the hardcore Trump supporters. Christie is the worst, but DeSantis needs to be careful with this. Ramaswamy knows this and that is why he's taking the position that Trump was sorta good but it's time for younger leadership. It's a position that will win him some of the Trump supporters.

The reality is some Trump supporters will never vote for DeSantis if he becomes the nominee (just like some folks won't vote for Trump). I do think DeSantis should go after Trump more....not like Christie, but go after Trump on his record with the facts. DeSantis has compelling arguments on why he should be the nominee and how he would do a better job than Trump did. He should point out Trump's failures.

Newsom is definitely going to replace Biden. Gotta say...he's a very slick politician. Seems like Hannity likes him for some odd reason.

I agree with cptlo, they should have everyone's mic turned off except the person answering the question. Dana made a good effort trying to keep them in line with the rules. It's not just rude and disrespectful to interrupt the person answering the question asked of them, but it's unprofessional. Vick's Menthol Rub Swampy was the worst offender of this.

Speaking of Swampy, he seems to think people should vote for him because he's the youngest candidate and feels he can relate to the younger voters better than the rest. One thing about the younger conservative voters is they are well-informed and vote. I don't think they would consider DeSantis, Haley, and Scott too old. I don't like this guy. He was asked about saying he would ban TikTok during the first debate and then started using it to reach out to the younger voters.

Say what you want about Christie, but he answered the questions asked of him. He didn't avoid them and go for the soundbites.

Scott didn't answer all the questions. There were some he avoided.

Haley got very aggressive with Scott after he said she raised the gas tax in SC ten cents a gallon. She initially denied it and then admitted it because she got her legislature to reduce income tax. He was correct when he said voters in Florida voted in favor of banning offshore drilling. The average sea level in Florida is 300 feet. There are many areas in Florida prone to flooding, which makes fracking more of a concern because underground streams and aquifers could be easily contaminated, which is harmful to their drinking water. DeSantis was the first one to go after Trump for not being at the debates. Quite frankly, I agree with him. I find it very disrespectful to the voters not to show up. Most of us want to hear how he answers the questions.

Burgum gave some good answers but should drop out of the race. He's wasting his time. The participation requirements should be increased for the next debate to eliminate at least half of the field.

Pence was the worst of them when it came to answering questions. He avoided many of them and instead went for the soundbites. He sucks as a public speaker.

Who won? If you consider everything, it was DeSantis, followed by Haley, then Christie, Scott, Burgum, and Swampy.

I think Vivek's 15 minutes are almost up.
He is the most annoying candidate in the debates. He's rude and childish. I thought it was wrong when Dana asked them to write down which candidate they would vote off the island. Swampy would have been my choice. I think he would have been everyone else's choice too.

Actually the reality is some voters (Republicans, Democrats, and Independents) will never vote for anyone other than "their candidate." Voting is not a requirement to be a citizen, many people choose not to participate if they feel there is no viable candidate from which to choose. Right or wrong, fair or unfair, that's the reality. Out of the millions of adults from which to choose it's always disappointing to see the poor choice of candidates but on the flip side, many otherwise qualified candidates would never consider putting their name in the hat for consideration. They won't nothing to do with politics and probably rightly so.

Only 8% of republicans didn't watch the debate? When you figure that most of the "50%" of Trump supporters wouldn't give a carp about the rest of the field anyway?

Sounds pretty questionable to me.

I think that means they didn't answer that question or selected that they don't know who won the debate.

With the lead he has, he doesn't need to take a chance by being there. Most strategists agree with his decision to skip them.
Most chicken shite candidates with something to hide would skip them. Anyone with character and a commitment to the job would debate any chance they got. You Trumpers raise hell about politics as usual and then support your candidate when he plays the political game. Here is a piece of cake please feel free to eat it.

Ummm, I'm not a Trumper. I just don't hate the guy as some obviously do.

Barring any knockout punches, he has the primary won. Hardly any candidate in that position would attend the debate, especially when he would just be a punching bag for all the other candidates.

Who here hates Trump, GD?

GD your post state otherwise. You defend him like Clarence Darrow. I do not hate him. I just have no respect for him. He is still chicken shite for not debating.
I've also stated many times here that I don't yet know who I'll vote for. It seems like if you don't constantly attack Trump here, you're a Trumper. How fair is that?

I'm the guy who is still deciding and listening to many candidates. This division coming from some is what is killing the party.

Those of you who watched the debate last night will know that they talked about Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment: "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican"

Yes, Trump is the king of it, no question.

But it seems 2 (or more) wrongs do make a right.

OK, bash away. I'm done trying to be fair.

Reagan's 11th Commandment was for Republican politicians and candidates, not the voters. Reagan also opposed elected Republicans from endorsing candidates in primaries as it caused division.

The primary right now is a race to win the nomination, not beat Biden. The contest against him starts after the nomination is won. DeSantis attacked Trump's record, the same record Trump is running on.

For the last time, I don't hate Trump. There is a difference between hating someone and disliking them. Don't ever accuse me of hating him again.
