These stunts apparently have been part of the show for years but it seems the rodeo clowns in Missouri didn't get the memo that a black president is off limits.

If it were just the mask, I might agree that it was simply a parody. But coupled with the comments made by the announcers, it went over the line and it has absolutely nothing to do with his race. We can talk about situations where an issue wasn't made all day long on both sides, it doesn't change the fact that it is disrespectful (regardless of the president or who defends it).

Should Saturday Night Live and the talk shows stop poking fun at the president too?

Ask the Dixie Chicks...
Why ask them.............what's your opinion?
I've told you my opinion, but you obviously stopped listening when I disagreed with what you were saying...

I have a hearing problem then. I'll ask you...........Should SNL and Late Night talk shows stop joking about the President? Simple enough.

Lisa, have you ever been to a rodeo?? The clowns are known for dressing up like famous people. It's part of the fun, it really is. They also entertain during the entire show.

I don't think a clown at a rodeo in small town MO is quite the same as on stage in London telling everyone they are ashamed of the president. :dunno

I'm just wondering something...........................
HE'S A CLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Dixie Chicks are just singers...

No worries, like GD said, double standards, that's all.
Yep, the DC are just singers and they paid the "PUBLIC" price of voicing their political views to their conservative fans. As for the clown, he's a clown and his job is to make people laugh. He was catering to his base just like his job demanded and now the "GOVT" is persecuting him. It didn't matter who the president was because it is what a clown does. He makes funny jestures to get a laugh. Truth of the matter doesn't show a double standard.

One can argue that it was disrespectful (I disagree)... and still hold the position that elected officials
have absolutely no business punishing and chilling the free speech rights of their political opponents:

"The Dixie Chicks are free to speak their mind. They can say what they want to say ... they shouldn't have their feelings hurt just because some people
don't want to buy their records when they speak out ... Freedom is a two-way street ... I don't really care what the Dixie Chicks said. I want to do what
I think is right for the American people, and if some singers or Hollywood stars feel like speaking out, that's fine. That's the great thing about America.
It stands in stark contrast to Iraq." - President George W. Bush

NG, it really doesn't matter about the type of stage is was put on but your first comment is spot on. It is what the clowns have been doing forever. Our prez is special now and is above ridicule of any kind. Especially the kind where folks are laughing at him.

When it gets to the point of disrespect, YES!!! Does that answer your question? SNL and all of those late night talk shows create great fodder about every single president - and sometimes it's also disrespectful. Yes, people laugh and they get good ratings, but that does NOT change the fact that it is disrespect. But, in this situation, we're not just talking about someone making a joke about something the president misspoke about, we are talking about someone taking it a step further. Even the Republican Lt. Gov. of Missouri said it was disrespectful.

I'll be sure then to check with you to determine what "disrespect" line we need to follow. You really want to go there? This society of insensitivity has broad reaching implications and it appears now to be masking itself into censorship under the guise of "disrespect". Had those people in the crowd felt it was disrespectful, I'm sure they would have spoken but they didn't. They knew it was all in jest because that is what a rodeo clown is supposed to do. If that guy had put on a Nixon mask and done the same thing, the crowd would have been just as satisfied and the officials wouldn't have said a dog gone thing and you know it.

I say we buy Obama masks for everyone at Turner Field and give them away at the game!

This is just another distraction from the real issues at hand. Screw them if they cannot take a joke!

And so what if it is disrespectful ? ? ? The president is not royalty. We have an absolute right to mockery and dissent.
Public officials have no business chastising the political speech of entertainers, the above precisely illustrates the point.
Nobody cared when everyone was endlessly mocking Bill Clinton or George Bush... there is a major difference today.

And now I am reminded of why it is so difficult for kids to understand the importance of Luke 6:31 and Romans 12:2. But whatever people, make fun of whomever you wish, but just know that there are folks out there who are trying to teach their kids the value of respecting other people. I can teach it to my child over and over again, but when she sees "grown" folk acting like this, it sends a conflicting message. I guess this is just another reason why we are supposed to pray without ceasing...

Can you wear a mask in public or at public events? Just wondering.
