Yes, yes she did. She assisted him.Agreed...but she didn't kill him.
If the outcome of the trial was different I would feel the same way.

I can not even imagine being her parent. She is to some degree responsible for the unnatural death of another human being. She will appeal. Depends on what judge hears her appeal as to the outcome. Even if over turned she will be found guilty of some form of complicity. She is by any account a horrible person which unfortunately is not against the law. I hope her parents are proud of the spoiled sociopathic little bitch.
I would agree if she cranked the generator, shut the door, heck even filled the generator with gas. The word assist involves a physical act. The word advise does not, and advising one on suicide is not against the law. She is a horrible excuse for a human being, but that's perfectly legal.Yes, yes she did. She assisted him.

Sorry but I disagree. She was evil, vile, and disgusting.....but she didn't kill him. He was sick, weak, and easily manipulated...and made the ultimate decision to end his life.Yes, yes she did. She assisted him.

When broken down line by line I completely see the argument, and I am in agreement with the involuntary manslaughter charge. Contributing and not doing anything was mentioned as requirements of the involuntary manslaughter charge. The judge did cite a similar instance and I believe he was very thorough in his explanation of why. There were thousands of texts, she tried covering her tracks, she had access to contact family or even police and did not, he is not even saying that Conrod would not have attempted and succeeded at another time, but that he had tried before, and stopped. He stopped again this time and because of her direction (and obviously the thought that she loved and cared for him) got back in the vehicle and died. She urged him back into a vehicle knowing that the vehicle with the carbon monoxide flowing would not allow a human to sustain life.I seriously doubt that the verdict will stand, and I'm concerned that she'll end up getting off scott free because they convicted her of the wrong charge.
I'm not a legal expert, but it seems to me that a charge of being an accessory to or contributing to would make more sense.
I do not. I am taking it the same as "Fire." Yell that outside, nothing. Yell it in a theater and you have just put hundreds of people at risk when they trample each other out of the room. If she said it once or twice. Horrible, but just a horrible person. She said it over and over, instructed him, and was in a position to help at the end and not only did not, when he stopped his attempt, told him to continue. This is definitely a complicated case because of how everything occurred, but I do not see it as a problem with having freedom of speech, more of your words and actions have consequences. And I think this sets a potentially dangerous precedent for freedom of speech cases.

TAUNTON, MASS. (AP) - The woman who sent her boyfriend dozens of texts urging him to kill himself was sentenced to 15 months in jail for manslaughter Thursday afternoon.
The judge made a statement regarding rehabilitation so I do not believe that he was going to send her to any place that would be hard anyway. He immediately granted the suspended sentence in court when her lawyer made the request. While I know that some do not agree with his judgement, I am reading many practicing (not just I am a lawyer on tv type) state they do believe his judgement will hold and that it was fair. IDK. I think she totally needs mental help and should not be released into the public without some type of long term therapy happening. She is a sicko and they really do not rehabilitate in prison. The judge also suspended the sentence pending appeal. That usually means that the judge believes himself to be correct but has been advised otherwise or heard a different point of view from a trusted colleague.
How so? After reading some of the text messages that were released in the news, what she did was a lot like yelling "fire" in a crowded movie theater. We both know that if someone did did something like that and someone is trampled to death as a result of the crowd trying to run out, whoever yelled fire is going to be criminally charged. And I think this sets a potentially dangerous precedent for freedom of speech cases.
Not the same thing. How so? After reading some of the text messages that were released in the news, what she did was a lot like yelling "fire" in a crowded movie theater. I think there's a big difference between, "You're an idiot because you're a liberal," than "Now that you have the rag in the exhaust, get back in the truck and die. You will be doing yourself and the world a favor once you're dead."Not the same thing.
I'm worried that this will be a slippery slope. What will be the next thing someone says that gets them charged because of something someone else does? What if, after one of your political debates, a liberal you were arguing with commits suicide and you are blamed for driving them to it?
Could happen.
That difference might have just become smaller.I think there's a big difference between, "You're an idiot because you're a liberal," than "Now that you have the rag in the exhaust, get back in the truck and die. You will be doing yourself and the world a favor once you're dead."
