My only comment about her legal affairs is that she is currently in contempt in th U.S. District Court over nonpayment of court ordered fees to Xerox's attorney's fees. The judge gave her 90 days from last Friday to pay them or she will go to jail. This has been ongoing for months and she still hasn't paid. The fact that she willingly ignores a court order, makes me question her judgment.

I agree. One can say she doesn't have the money to pay, but that still doesn't sit well with a lot of voters and only provides her political opponents with ammo.

One could say that, but I believe she loaned her campaign $30,000 - that's more than the judgment... :dunno

That loan could have been in the form of putting together her mailers and sending them out, where as no cash was involved in the loan.

Most likely scenario.

While I do agree for the most part, we only have surface information. We don't know if appeals, etc are happening. We are assuming that she's willingly ignoring, but I really don't believe that would be the case.

No appeals or opposition by Paulette was filed. Her then attorneys were ordered to pay as well - they paid their portion. If she was contesting the amount or alleging that her then attorneys should be responsible for all of the amount, there would be a pleading on the record to indicate that. There's nothing.

It could be. I guess I've spent too many years in a law firm - court orders (and ignoring hem) are a big deal to me.

We both know that things go on behind the scenes that never become public.

I have over 20 years in. It's important to me too.

We also know that when a federal judge speaks, you better get some opposition on the record if you're not going to listen.

Dr John has been around this County a very long time, but is no longer practicing medicine. I have gotten to know him pretty good by attending Commissioner meetings and other County events. He is a great fellow and very easy to talk to.

But I have also met Paulette a few times and how she got elected is beyond me! Another politician with the personality of a dead fish. Very cold to anyone that cannot help her or has lots of money. She will not get my vote either.
I know Paulette as she is my friend. There is zero wrong with her personality, she is actually pretty smart. People hate her for whatever the reason is, which personally I could careless...but she is not dumb nor cold to anyone. She also did exactly everything she said she would do in the past 2 years in the House. I also could bring up something that I know about one of her challengers but I won't. If you knew Paulette, you'd understand but you don't...only hearsay. And yes, I know about her financial issues related to her business and of what she is doing about it to resolve it. But hey, no one cares about that other than bash her by listening to third party jerks who have an agenda and will do whatever they can to hurt her in any way possible or flat out lie.

And speaking of lies...Mason is way off base and is lying about Heath wanting to end the Hope Scholarship. That is completely false.

Oh I know her oh too well. I have been in a couple of committees and chamber events with her, plus various meetings all over the County. I stand by my comments. If you don't have power or money, she doesn't have the time of day for you. I've seen it first hand. I'm now in her district, but she lost my vote many years past.

Agreed ^

As far as the OP, some things never change.

I don't mean to offend anyone and there are some wonderful people on this site, but, for whatever it is worth, I will NOT consider voting for Paulette.

Taking everything else out of the equation (and there are a multitude of things), the simple fact is that she owes thousands in taxes and should not be allowed to represent our District.

Honestly, maybe I am looking at this wrong but voting for Paulette to "lead" us could simply compare to allowing a "criminal" to "show us all" the "right way" to live. I"m not buying her stories.

She is not a criminal. She has been convicted of zero. Maybe one should ask Melissa about their run in with the Catholic priest...that would be a doosy.
But that is your choice, BB and I respect that. However, I am also stating that discussing this and that elsewhere without the other side is pretty pathetic. Her business is dead...or in Chapter 11, can't remember which one off hand and many have lost their businesses with unpaid debts, taxes, etc. due to this economy. It is not like she's not paying her property taxes and the like, like some other candidate isn't doing in another race. And yes, she has been working on it and not ignoring anything like some are saying. There are those that hate her with a passion and they show it every time they open their mouths and its the same crowed as always. That should raise a red flag many times over.

Just to make it clear, I know nothing about her tax issues. I'm only discussing the things in her federal litigation with Xerox - where she has been given 90 days to pay court-ordered fees or be arrested.

Where does it says that she will be arrested?

in the order issued by Judge Cooper last Friday. Pay within 90 days or be arrested (along with her husband) - the marshal is to arrest and detain them until the contempt is satisfied (paid).

You are right Lisa C. There is an order that states that she (Paulette) will be arrested should she not purge herself of contempt in 90 days.

I for one am very, very, very embarrassed that this woman is representing us.

You know, this is one of those elections that the "fear of the known" is simply scarier than the "fear of the unknown."

That is my perspective because it has happened to me, nothing more. I really do not care about her business issues as i know it will happen to 90% of all small businesses at some point. How she treated me when in the same room, same committee, same meeting has left me with a bitter taste in my mouth about her. It's how you treat people who cannot help you back is a big measure of character in my book!

You have the power of the press, so you have power. That is what all politicians want. So naturally she's going to be very friendly to you.

Uh, no, I don't have or use any power as a citizen journalist. That is false. I have stated that any of the candidates have something to say, send me something and I will print it no matter who I support or who I will vote for. Only 2 have taken up that offer. So no, we get along and are friends and have been for a while. But I agree with you on the business part...she isn't the first and won't be the last. This thing with Xerox and her is a business law dispute issue, not a personal issue as in her own finances and property taxes, etc. In looking up Xerox lawsuits, there are several so it isn't just her. It happens and people need to let that go as for me, it is irrelevant.

You hit the nail on the head Winchester.

I have tried my very best to give Paulette the benefit of the doubt and due to the NUMEROUS issues she has, I cannot any longer do this.

Not to mention the fact that I PERSONALLY witnessed her campaigning at the funeral home during the visitation of a very dear friend of mine. It was truly DISGUSTING.
