Paulding County is going with MotoTRBO for public safety radio system

I wonder what the Commissioners, past and present are thinking, to wit;

Twice as much Courthouse as was needed, with the millions that went with it

A Reservoir that has been on the books at least one decade, that I know of (which will be a huge deal in a few years)

Millions for an Airport that is, at best, hardly used

and now a Radio System that will be inadequate as soon as it is installed (remember the floods a few years back)

It seems like the priority list is seriously out of order.

I remember listening to the scanner all night. In South Paulding we had major flooding. Even Gullege was out there helping "feet first" in rescue.

:sigh: Correct you are, sir.

I think all emergency services within the county should be centrally dispatched from one dispatch center. In the long run, it does save each munciplality money. The county where I lived in Michigan had a central dispatch program and there were several more law enforcement agencies and fire departments within that county as compared to Paulding. Even the state police from the post located within the county were part of the central dispatching. All law enforcement agencies within the county were able to talk to each other as could the fire departments. The police officers from the different departments could also talk to each other on the designated car-to-car frequency. There was also another frequency the LEOs had that allowed them to talk to departments in adjoining counties in case a chase took them into another jurisdiction, as this was quicker than having a dispatcher from one location relay the information to a dispatcher of another location, who in turn relayed it to their patrol vehicles.

It is no exaggeration that the delay caused by relaying info from on scene through dispatch to other agency can be life threatening. Nevermind the reality of information being relayed inaccurately. Absolutely stupid in this day and age to go with a closed system.

^^^THIS is my biggest concern.

I listen to the scanner often, but I have no problem at all NOT listening if it means more efficiency, cost effectiveness, better coverage, etc. However, I can't understand buying into a system that will essentially CUT OFF our men and women of law enforcement. I just can't wrap my head around it.
