Obama Hates New Yorkers...

Yikes!

Here's my .02. I've never been to NYC. But MrB and I spent a week in Philly a couple of years ago. Wow. I was blown away by the amount of rude people. Everyone we encounters. Literally as soon as we got off the plane it started. I thought my husband was going to get into a fight before we got out of the airport. LOL The only friendly person we met was a bar owner who'd moved there with her husband from somewhere south. I hated it there.

On the same note, I'm not fond of GA either. But then again, I'm not the person to ask as I dislike most everybody. :laugh
:laugh ! I don't see you as one that dislikes everyone!

Awww, I love Miss Jesse. All you have to do is say Hey and she'll love you forever. Having grown up with two uncles that have severe autism, I guess it doesn't scare me at all.

When I found out I was expecting my youngest, my neighbor that I'd only known for a few months gave me a baby shower. It had been twelve years since I had a baby and I had NOTHING left. People I had never met brought gifts and made me feel so much a part of their neighborhood I was taken aback. I'd never seen such kindness in my life, but again, this was Old Paulding.......................almost 30 years ago. Before the influx of the mass migration. I'm still very close friends with many of those people even though I moved to Yorkville 20 years ago. They are awesome!!

That is incredibly sweet, but that has not been my experience with life long Paulding Co folks. :dunno

I'm sorry, my experience has only been positive. I love Paulding County and the people here. :love

Just shows the difference in folks. When we first moved out here, if you weren't related to the Rakestraws, Hardys, etc., people generally didn't want to talk to you. It definitely improved as more people moved out here.

Even when we started visiting churches, the church folks weren't that nice.

Not sure when you moved here but when I did it was still a very small community. I believe there wasn't even 30,000 people in the whole county. When the building started in the early 90s and the migration was so rapid, many of the "old" folks were angry at the Rakestraws and Hardys for selling all that land to build those subdivisions. They liked their two grocery stores, the plaza and the one stop light by Huddle House. Having lived in a town of only 500 until I was 10, I felt very much at home in that little Paulding. I hated Chicago!! I moved here several years before the first Walmart on Business 6. My BIL's house sat right where Mrs Winners is. Lots of changes to the landscape and the way of life. Yea, there is still some bitterness from some of those old Paulding Countians.

As I understand it there are 6 old time "big" Paulding County families.
I am good friends with 4 people who are from 4 of those 6 families, but as my luck would have it, they are the "black sheep" of the families. :)

Those big families are great people. I know many of them, they're kind and giving just don't cross 'em.

And right there leads to my biggest issue with this county. Those families are in way too many positions that give them the ability to really screw with people if they want. Or they are considered special so the rules don't apply to them. I knew some and have never had any issues with them personally but I hate the good ole boy crap in any locale. It's really no better than union thug crap.

We moved here in 1993. I welcomed our yankee neighbors - they were (and are) the nicest people in the subdivision.

I work in customer service. I get calls from people all across the US. I have recieved plenty of pissed off, rude callers fron New York, but I have also recieved just as many from people in GA and many other states. I think it is crazy to lump all people together just because they live in a certain state. It's the same as when people say most people from CA are either gay or surfers. I believe we had another thread recently where someone posted that people who say they have crazy lives are unorganized and untrustworthy. These types of blanket statements are ignorant. I have lived in my house now for 8 years and I can count on one hand the amount of times I have talked to my neighbors. When our house was robbed and we were going door to door to find out if anyone saw anything, since it happened in broad daylight, they couldn't be bothered to even try to help. My point is that you can't judge all by the actions of a few.

I guess I'm way late on this thread (and maybe the topic at hand doesn't even apply anymore) but I was impressed with this quote by Walter Russell Mead:

The problem with nanny state governance isn’t just that it’s intrusive. It isn’t just that it stifles business with over-regulation, and it isn’t just that it empowers busybodies and costs money. It’s that it distracts government from the really big jobs that it ought to be doing.
