I'll be working with Jeff Eberhart some on his campaign for coroner.

here's his website: http://jeffforcoroner.com/

If you have any questions, want Jeff to drop by here, want a yard sign, or know of any opportunities for "meets and greets", please let me know. I'll be sure and pass them along.

Cool. If you like him, I reckon I can give him my vote. ;)

He's a very stand-up guy. I do like him. My whole family does in fact.

I like Sam Clark too. But I'm ready to support some changes in Paulding.

I like Eberhart. Clark has done a good job as coroner, but it has always bothered me that the county coroner also has the contract for the county EMS service... :dunno

Yep ... might be time to break it up a little. Nothing against Clark, just time to loosen the grip.

Isn't it sort of a conflict of interest for a Coroner to also own a funeral home (or have a family funeral home)? I am not being mean, I am curious.

Could be. Sam Clarke seems to be a good man, but it is an awkward arrangement that could be viewed in a negative light. And he's made some poor decisions in operation of the EMS business.

I've always wondered more if it were a conflict to be the County Coroner and hold the contract for the county's ambulance service. It's probably not unusual for the coroner to be a funeral director.

The problem I see in seeking out someone for the position who didn't own or work at a funeral home, is that it would be difficult to find someone comfortable dealing with dead bodies, who could be qualified to pronouce someone dead. (I'm at work and trying to slip this in, so I hope that makes sense. :)) ) And, no, I didn't take your question as mean. It's a perfectly legitimate question to ask anyone seeking your vote.

The current coroner owns a local funeral home and holds the contract for the county's EMS service.

A county this size needs a medical examiner not the set up we have now.

Kinda like the LE here should be able to investigate their own accidents?

How do you believe that would improve the set up? (I really don't mean that snarky. I'm really asking.)

I don't know, either. There's a lot I don't know.

I may not be up-to-date with his place, but I believe he no longer owns the funeral home. He may still work there, but I believe they just kept the name.

I've always liked Jeff and the boy can SANG! I've sung with him many times, or I should say in the same programs with the Joymasters. He was always supportive of the Pioneers and Zion when I was part of those groups. I used to mess with him about the funeral home business. He was always light-hearted about it.

I'd love for him to join The Hwy...Please invite him. If I happen to see him, I'll do the same ;D

How many deaths have to have an autopsy? All of those are being sent out because unless the coroner is a forensic pathologist he can't do one. (Most laws and regulations require that, though I have not confirmed that for Paulding. Most licensed doctors can do an autopsy, but I do not, or at least are not familiar with many that do.) Would it not be a better set up to have an ME as coroner for a county this size?
Nothing against Jeff, I personally agree with NJ that for our county we should have an ME, not just anyone that can get enough votes to win.

Thanks, Madea. Also, SD made a great point... how many deaths need an autopsy?

To mention a few that require autopsies:

- In custody deaths
- Some deaths that do not occur under the supervision of an attending doctor
- Suicides
- Homicides (that goes without saying)

In the early 90's, I was invited to the Cobb ME's Office by a friend of mine who left the S.O. to work for them as an investigator. He wanted me to take an open investigators position, but after visiting the place, I declined. It's not my.....thing :sick

But anyway, had I taken the position, I would actually have been doing the mechanical portion of the autopsy. The ME reviews the information gathered during the autopsy and makes a determination as to the cause of death. In smaller counties, the ME may do them all, but Cobb had too many stiffs for one guy to do.

I didn't get out of it though. While assigned to investigations, I had my FILL of attending autopsies. Even while working Internal Affairs, I had to attend those for persons who died in custody. Once again....not my thing :sick :sick :sick
