It doesn't happen often...

Funny you ask, we are sitting in one airport, after arriving from an 8 hour trip from Europe. One baby across the aisle from us, about the age you are considering, screamed for 30 minutes before take-off, then slept until we landed. Another baby screamed during take-off, and then again on descent.

As stated, depends on the baby. Some are fine, some aren't, some are fine but not flying?

The air pressure changes usually are not comfortable - they don't know how to "pop" their ears to equalize the pressure. Feeding them during the take-off and landing is recommended - and sometimes actually works. IF they are interested in feeding at those exact moments!

To be honest? I would think you would be very focused on caring for a new baby at that stage. I would be the first to encourage you to travel and not feel stuck at home with a little one, but it might take away from the fun of getting away. Plus the timezone changes will be a lot of fun for all of you.

No way would I travel like that with a baby. Sorry but I have been trapped on several flights with screaming kids and I have enough respect for others to not do that to them.

I agree...and I normally wouldn't travel, but my husband is from England. And when I say from - I mean, spent 28 years of his life there and only moved to the states 8 months ago. We NEED to see his family as ALL of his family is over there. And, his brothers wife doesn't have long to live. I'm actually concerned about her making it to next summer.

Believe me, 8 hours on a plane with an infant?

What I'll really have to decide is if i take an overnight flight (which is what I usually do). That almost seems worse, since people will want to sleep.

The first time we flew with the princess was in first class and she didn't even make a whimper. Don't freak out about this, you're going to have to fly with a baby so just make sure you are prepared for whatever happens.

Since the fare difference is $22K to fly first class, we'll be in cattle call with the rest of the schmucks. There are worse things, not many 10 year olds get to say they've been to London!

Blessed!

OUCH!! Start praying for a fare sale for London to hit. Coach won't be so bad if you're all in the same row - you can still spread out.
