HELP - babies and travel

We were going to go over to London this year, but I'm not sure that it's going to happen with the recent pregnancy. I was thinking about putting it off and making it next summer's family vacation.

Is it safe to travel with a 3-4 month old baby on a transcontinental flight?

My best friend and her husband did a European vacation when hers were 3 and about 9 months. (It was work for her husband, but they combined it and extended to make a vacation.)

The worst part of the trip for her? That dang Elmo toy (we both had one for our boys) that would start singing ALL the time in the luggage! Her husband says he threw it away 4 times during the trip, and it STILL ended up in the bags. :laugh

I will tell you....I found that toy not too long ago as we were cleaning out our basement. My son is now 12, and the Elmo STILL sings!!!

Is their name Grizwald?

Jackson was still sleeping a lot at that age, but he had colic so when he was awake he was screaming. I don't know. They aren't mobile, so no need for space to run around.

I wonder how the cabin pressures and stuff would affect a baby?

Interesting question.

^^^^this is probably what would concern me the most. That cabin pressure messes with my head, ears and sinuses. I flew one time with a sinus infection and thought I was going to die. I had such a horrible coughing fit, I know those around me were concerned for their own health!! Ended up at the ER on my daughter's wedding day.

I guess the baby's pediatrician would be the best to ask.

Good news. Even if the baby did have colic, it's usually over by 3 months. :D

Unless its my child. It wasn't gone until 4 months.

We flew with the princess several times when she was a baby and we never had an issue, but it depends on the baby.

You need to get a go-go baby or something similar. It puts the car seat on wheels - we would wheel the princess through the airport and didn't need the stroller. They would check it at the gate and would have it waiting for us as we got off the plane. It made life so much easier!

it would be lap travel and the airlines provide a cot that attaches to the bulk head. It's only 8 hours....but, I might be overstating the only part.

The princess stayed in our laps, but they never provided a cot, the longest flight we took was to the West Coast though. The airlines were always really good about offering to warm bottles or food for her if we needed it, but I don't really remember any thing more that they offered. If you can fly first or business class, do that - we upgraded with the princess a few times and the extra comfort was wonderful (especially on long flights)!

Many airlines will not allow children in 1st class any more. Apparently the folks that fly 1st class often don't want the noise. :dunno

That's NOT true, just a rumor.

I would NEVER fly first class with a child unless I was absolutely certain that child would be an angel. It should be reserved for business class.
