GOAL....GOAL.....GOAL....

Come on dude, you would have loved the action in the last 10 minutes. We just needed to hold possession for 25 seconds but a lazy pass and lack of effort to control the ball resulted in an opportunity for Portugal and they took advantage of it. Now we have to win or tie against Germany Thursday to advance to the next round. They "tie" in bracket play and give 3 pts for a win, 1 point for a tie, and -3 for a loss. The U.S. is in group G with Germany, Ghana, and Portugal. We are currently tied with Germany with 4 points, the other two teams in our group are tied with 1 point. The top two teams in each group advance so a win today would have locked that in, now we have to beat or tie Germany to advance. Just for the record, we weren't suppose to win any games. That's why they called our group the "Group of Death." Gotta pull for our country to at least advance to the next round.

I am now a fan of whatever team that man coaches.

"We're going to beat the Cowboys, the Cowboys and Jennifer Lawrence."

"How many countries are in this country?" "Four."

"I want you to give 60%, 4000% of the time."

Now that man is a football coach!

For those interested the U.S. is playing Germany now for a chance to move on to the next round. Oh, and my previous posts about the scoring system was incorrect (no surprise there). We advance with a win or draw with Germany today but still have a chance to advance with some help from the other two teams in Group G. I'm not even going to try to explain it....but here are the possibilities:

Here’s how the United States can advance to the round of 16:

– A win over Germany (United States finishes first in the group, plays the second-place team from Group H on Monday at 4 p.m. in Porto Alegre).

– A draw with Germany (United States finishes second in the group, plays the first-place team from Group H on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Salvador).

– A loss to Germany combined with a Portugal-Ghana draw (United States finishes second in the group, plays the first-place team from Group H on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Salvador).

– A U.S. loss to Germany combined with a win by either Portugal or Ghana would create a two-way tie for second in the group at four points. The United States could still advance under this scenario, depending on tiebreakers. After points accrued, the first tiebreaker is goal differential, then total goals scored. Here’s an explanation of FIFA’s tiebreaking process.

I understand that we a down 1-0 at this time.
I also understand that if we lose, we will advance, if Uruguay loses, which they are currently doing.

How do I know these facts? (if they are indeed facts)
Not sure.

We did lose yet we do advance. Go try to figure that one out. Must be some of those European International rules or something. Dang, it was so close though, we had two chances to score in the 4 minute penalty time added after regulation time expired (another one of those weird rules). As long as we advance I'm happy.

Oh, another weird rule....you can be out of bounds and kick the ball as long as the ball isn't out of bounds. That's just un-American. That's like a football coach (real football) tripping a player running down the sideline for a touchdown...oh wait, that has happened.

I could not resist... warning for bleeped curses and politically incorrect hilarious bigotry.

I am normally not a fan of the insult dog, but that was funny.

As soon as the teams are done jogging and warming up, they are going to start the game.
Oh, wait.
I've just been informed that this is the game and I've actually been watching soccer for the past two hours.

Not as funny, but not bad.

If Michael Jackson had treated his chronic insomnia with a tape of Argentina vs. Brazil instead of Propofol, he'd still be alive, although bored.

Last shot for Stradial to convert to futbol for the next 4 years. The U.S. plays Belgium at 4pm today, it will be aired on ESPN. This is the knockout round so there are no ties and loser goes home. I'll be shocked if we advance.

We're 15 minutes into regulation time of the game, all tied at....wait for it....0-0. But you can feel the excitement building in the stands. USA...USA...USA!!!

(hey, you can't knock my patriotism...even if it is futbol soccer)

Half-time and still tied 0-0 but they tell me the second half is going to be much better. I guess it's just great defense on both teams. Yeah, that sounds good, we'll go with that. :dunno

End of regulation and the game is tied at....

yep, you guessed it...0-0. What a game though. There is no way we should still even be in the game. Going into to extra time now. :popcorn :popcorn :popcorn

Losers. Oh well.
We've got 4 years to prepare for more disappointment. Actually they did better than I thought they would but admittedly my expectations were pretty low. There's an obvious difference in skill level between the U.S. and the better teams.

Did we win?
Ohhh, we tied.
Yeh, we used to have ties in our sports.....but quit when we realized it was dumb.

I nominated you for the next head coach so you have 4 years to learn the game. No worries, doesn't look like there's much to it until the extra time kicks in.
