The 2014 World Cup games have begun.

GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

This is one sport that if it disappeared from the face of the earth, not only would my life not be affected one iota, but I would probably never know.

The Costa Rican government stated today that all government employees are allowed to watch World Cup matches while at work. Something tells me that there will not be a lot of work done. It's a lot of fun living in a country that loves football so much. I was just outside watering some plants and could hear the echoes of "GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!!!!" throughout the neighborhood. Saturday will be crazy for sure (first match for CR)

Too bad little Costa Rica will most likely get it's butt whipped, badly.

It ain't football, it's soccer and it should be played by 7 year old girls.
I know, I know, the majority of the world calls it football and follows it, but just because the majority is wrong doesn't make it right.
If it is not played by 7 year old girls, I call it "let's get drunk and riot (because the rest of our lives suck so bad) ball".

I know what you are thinking.....and I will not disagree.
(but I am still right :) )

I'd almost have to agree with you. I don't follow soccer but I really do enjoy some of the World Cup games. I also enjoy seeing some of the culture clips and seeing the fans. They can get crazy stupid over their sport.

Well, I am nothing if not open minded.
(despite what others, including the wife, say)

So based on your suggestion, I may try and catch a few minutes.
But I do have a major concern.
What if I like it?
Then I will have to adjust a lot of my preconceived opinions and prejudices.
Some of which I dearly enjoy.
:sigh:
I hate it when that happens.

I love soccer, but since I went to my first hockey game a few months ago, hockey has surpassed it as my second favorite sport. Baseball being my first love.

Not that anyone here gives a crap, but….

¡GANAMOS TICOSTICOSTICOS! COSTA RICA WINS!!!! 3-1

And it wasn't just a little win. Uruguay was not to be an easy team to beat by any standards. Little Costa Rica is celebrating like a Giant tonight!

So much fun being here for this! And no, there is no rioting in Costa Rica. Nothing but happiness and parties. I don't even think they have a word for "riot" in their lexicon. Muy tranquilo. ¡GANAMOS!

I can say this.
Since you are there and you care, I am happy for Costa Rica and their team.
I am also happy there is no rioting.
Perhaps between the Jman, you and Costa Rica, this will be the year that I watch some of the World Cup.

But as I said, what if I like it?
There is a lot of redneck prejudice that I will have to change.
(and I do not like change)

GOOOOOOOOOOOOO Costa Rico!!

You did that on purpose. I must act like I don't like you now. ;)

Psssstt! The US plays some country named "Costa de Marfil" on Monday at 6pm EST. I'm sure you'll be really LOVE that match :sleep :firstplace

Germany won their game today 4-0 over Portugal, we have our first game tonight at 6pm EST against Ghana who I believe knocked us out last time (if memory serves me correctly, but it probably doesn't). Come on Stradial, you gotta was tonight. Give the sport one more chance.

I will try and watch, but it's not one more chance, it's the first chance.
USA USA USA
Gooooooooo, girls!

I'm honestly not a big fan of soccer, or I should say not a fan of soccer, but the World Cup games are fun to watch. Saw some pretty awesome plays in the last few games, I have no idea how they move the ball the way they do. I'd bust my big butt out there. I know one thing, if someone kicked me in the shin like I've seen some of the players do I'd punch that player in the face.

USA...USA...USA!!!
USA 2 / Ghana 1
Good game, nice to see the boys fight for the finish.

GOAL.....2-1 US over Portugal with 4 minutes to go in regulation. This is crazy, they're not suppose to win.

NOOOOOOOOOOO. Portugal tied with 25 seconds left in the game. Tied 2-2, final. We're still alive though, just have to beat or tie Germany Thursday to advance.
