Chilly Weather Comfort Food

I'm tired of leftovers from the holidays and with the cooler weather I am making an old family favorite, Pork Chop Casserole

Take about 8 pork chops (bone in or bone out), brown lightly in frying pan. Remove to casserole dish. Add two cans campbells tomato soup, two cans drained peas to casserole dish and spread out over chops. Bake for 1 hour at 350. Serve with mashed potatoes and warm bisquits

Home baked bread has to be on any chilly weather comfort food list.

I don't really like bread, but will eat homemade pumpernickel. No one ever seems to make that though. :(

For me, nothing beats a pot of homemade vegetable soup and cornbread. I love it!

Going to google pumpernikel...

You have had it. Maybe not realized it. :) (I think it is Logan's, or Texas Roadhouse or one of them that serve it...It is dark brown)

That is about the only bread I have ate since I was little. I love it!!!!!

Reminds me of the Thcarlett Pumpernickel! (OK, who gets it? :D )

YEAH, BABY!!! Also, homemade chili. And after eating that, go pile up on the sofa under an afghan in front of a roaring fire and take a big ol' nap.

I can't have a fire. My fireplace is no worky. :(

OH, NOES!!! Right now I only have a gas fireplace, and we generally don't use it since most of the heat goes up and out. But I would REALLY love a wood-burning heater with glass doors so I could have a roaring hot fire in this cold. :shiver:

All I can do is pretend. I have one of those candle holder inserts with 7 small pillars on it and lit. :)) :(

Me too! By choice. Ours works, but I am terrified of house fires and will not light it.

Oh man! You know I mean this in only the nicest possible way but ...

I HATE YOU! I absolutely love, love, love having a nice fire in the fireplace.

We have a small fireplace with gas logs. I miss the gas logs at my old house, they were excellent! Now my tenants get to enjoy them. We do enjoy lighting them here, they are on now, and also have a nice compliment of candles thru-out the house.

Back on topic ... soups. I LOVE soups! Chicken 'n rice, chicken tortilla, chili (bison and white chicken), 15 bean and ham, lentil, etc.

LOL. I am used to it. Husband and child hate me too.

As a child my house burned down from a gas leak and exploded when the fire was lit. (Not sure of exact details we never were really told.) Anyway my mom and I were in the house and my mom threw herself on me to cover me. She was burned on 80% of her body and I was completely fine. She was in a burn unit for almost a year and this was right after my brother died. I will not have gas in my home or a fire.
