Can Social Acceptance Encourage Immorality?

I'm not sure why, unless it's not not politically correct for mainstream opinion.

But there's plenty about the topic on the web for anyone who's mind is open enough to consider historical fact.
I said more...but I guess I did not save my explanation or something. Sorry.

It was an opinion of someone, while a historian, has garnered backlash before because of his personal opinion(s). (The Japan comment?) If I were to make a point I would have found articles/opinion pieces with the information presented, leaving out all the extra. I just think the extras dilute what you are trying to have someone learn, read, or think about on a topic. JMO though.

( you see, I do read the articles posted, even though I am very acquainted with that historical period. I am always open to reading something from someone that might be further information than when I was in school, or even opinions of a particular historian. New things are discovered and change what was once to be thought true everyday.)

Though opinions and beliefs may change, facts do not. If this was a major factor in the fall of the Roman Empire, then it will always be a truth.

Homosexuality aside; I doubt most of you would argue that there is a feminization of the American male culture going on, and there has been for some time. Not only in their behavior and mannerisms, but a general decline in men's ability to be strong (emotionally) and responsible. IMO, this does have some connection to homosexuality, but not exclusively. Meaning...I know a lot of hetero men who are pretty milquetoast too.

If it sounds like I'm saying women are weak, that's not what I meant at all. But historically, and I would argue biologically; the man's roll in society is to be the leader, the protector, the provider. We are the ones who should take ultimate responsibility for our families and certainly for children we help to create. And sadly, we don't see nearly as much of that from men as we once did. We see the results of this throughout the fabric of our society. Broken families, single moms, the massive number of people living on government assistance, even in our correctional system. Men not being men is a major factor in all these things and more.

So men are the problem? :thatsallfolks:

But seriously, @ShoeDiva

Do you agree with my general message about men becoming somewhat feminized?
I do.
I also think that when we as women don't respect that we are women, and that there are really some things that just because we can, doesn't mean we should.
When I hear a male state "it's her body, and I can't say anything if she wants to have an abortion." I want to slap the snot out of him.
You want to know how bad it is? I am the mom of 2 boys, and 1 daughter. I am more concerned about my boys, because all they have to do is piss off on batshit crazy chick, and their lives can be ruined. They can be accused of all kinds of crap, and won't be believed because they are males. So yeah I think that your message is loud, clear and true.
I have taught them to be gentlemen, and for my oldest that means he has been treated like crap by his first wife. I hope that the next one understands what a truly great guy he is and treats him like a man should be treated.
I have also taught my youngest to treat girls well, until they prove they don't deserve to be treated like a lady.
We have always encouraged our boys to be men (Godly men) and to be happy that they are men. Just like we taught our daughter to be happy she is a female. None of this well if you think you are a unicorn, then we will feed you skittles crap.
Maybe that's what's wrong with some of the kids these days. The parents taught them that fantasy, and reality are the same.

In some ways I can agree that more men take care of themselves and that is something newer or at least mainstream. There have always been classy dressed men, ones that made sure they have a haircut and clean shave, etc.

I think I see it more as there are many that are not responsible, not so much as feminine, so I agree with that point.

Though I mean really I gave you the thread in post 143. :p

Nothing wrong with a man taking care of himself and dressing nice.

Shaving their legs and wearing skinny jeans crosses the line though. :D

In Islam, a man pleasing himself with a goat or sheep is perfectly acceptable. And no consent is given. Animal rights is morality too. Some don't prescribe to beatings being abuse or cutting a cow's head off to be cruel. It's all morality. What I see more in this thread is not about consistency in beliefs instead, morality is subjective and the loudest voice will become the norm. Incest, animal sex, homosexuality, polygamy, etc are all different forms of morality. None of these are discounted because "you can't compare the two".....nobody is trying to say they are equal.....instead, the topics must be addressed because there is a serious lack of consistency among several arguments here and I'm taking the lead to make folks address it. I see clearly where everyone stands.

For several off the arguments, inconsistency and subjectiveness is the dominant trait. That's why this discussion is happening. I'm glad to fall on consistency and absolute.

When Hillary is confronted with truth she can't deny......she laughs. It's called a deflection.
Or I am literally so amused that I am laughing. ;)

Sometimes it is better to just laugh than actually comment on a ridiculous statement. I will just continue to laugh and ignore your little comment above. That comment does not reflect on me.....

I ran across this article posted in another political forum. I've read several other opinions similar to this in some articles and some studies I've done at church over the years.

While the headline singles out homosexuality; it was sexual perversion in general and a feminization (did I spell that right?) of men that played a major factor in the Roman Empire's fall. If you think about it, you might find some parallels to where our culture is heading.

Please note that this is not a conservative or religious publication. It's an Italian historian and the article is carried in a British publication.

I encourage everyone to read it.

This article offers no evidence. If actual evidence was offered, I might try to debunk it or else say "Oops...I'd better do some research." But the article offers nothing like this. Maybe the original study does, but from this article, there is nothing.

It's not scientific, but when the same person says that the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan were "a way of purifying human sin" I have a hard time taking him seriously without actual evidence.
