Cabbage?

I want some good cabbage. I've beer cooked it though. I'm thinking of tossing some in the crock pot.

Anyone have recipes? How long does it take to cook? Shoul I use chicken or beef broth? Cook it with sausage? What do I do?
 
We cook ours in the most unhealthy way, but it tastes sooo good! First we cut up bacon and cook it. Then when it is done, we pull it out, but leave the grease. Then we add the cabbage and saute it in the grease. Sometimes we add a little butter to it too. Towards the end we add a chopped onion, salt and pepper. Then, if you haven't eaten all the bacon, you can go ahead and throw that in there too.
 
We cut ours into wedges, rub a little butter, salt and pepper on it. Then wrap it in a piece of bacon. Wrap in aluminum foil and place either on the grill or in the oven. You'll bake around 45 min depending on how firm you like it. Yummy!

LOL I think I may try this. I have been googling becuase I have no idea how long this takes to cook. I am thinking about greens and how those have to cook for hours. It doesn't look like it takes long for cabbage.

Do you think we'll have heart attacks if I fry up some smoked sausage, too? LOL

Oh yum!!

Im starving now. I want some cabbage like Audry's. Lawdy that lady can cook some cabbage.

Actually, my post should have said "never cooked it before". My phone must have autocorrected it to beer. My phone knows me so well. LOL
 
I LOVE CABBAGE!!! I like it every way I've ever had it except in sauerkraut. :sick I just cannot make myself like German food.
 
Well, here's what I did. Cross your fingers for me.... I fried 4 or 5 pcs of bacon, and chopped the cabbage roughly and tossed it in the crock pot. Then I poured the bacon, grease and all, on top and tossed it. I added some s&p, and added a bit of water.

Then, I sliced smoked sausage and slightly browned it in the bacon pan, then added it, too.

I hope this is good, because it smells terrible. LOL

I got some corn on the cobb, too. But it will be slathered in butter and s&p. Can we say heart attack, y'all?

Also, I put this in the wrong forum. I'll move it to "what's cookin'".

You and Mr. B. should not both eat this. (at least at the same time) That would not be good for Baby B. Just saying. ;)
 
Sounds good actually, but don't let it cook too long or your cabbage will get soggy. I prefer mine with some crisp.

LOL! I may not have an appetite. Y'all didn't warn me about this horrid smell!

I've got it on low, and we'll eat about 5ish. I had to get it going while he was eating lunch, since he's into everything. MrB is at the other house working so I don't have help. LOL I hope it's not mush.

And we'll be sure to stay away from open flame. I will let you know how it turns out if I eat it. LOL
 
You can also put it in packages made out of aluminum foil, add some butter, chopped garlic, salt and pepper to taste and toss the packages on the grill. Tastes great. We will put white onions in there as well.
 
I kinda julienne the cabbage and throw in in a wok with butter (or bacon grease if I have some on hand) and saute it. Some gets browner but it is still kinda crunchy. OMG! We will be having that next week.
 
Well, idk if it was good or not. My house smells something awful, and when MrB got home he had to eat fast and shower... Etc., etc.

By the time I had time to eat, I didn't want it afte smelling all day. Lol I'll eat the left
Overs for lunch tomorrow. MrB Said it was food, but needed vinegar? I have no idea where that came from.

BBG, I'll try that - that sounds soooo good.
 
Needed vinegar? Thats called sauerkraut!! Where is this man from!?!?
