Braves 2018....

They need players who can get on base either by hitting or not swinging at bad pitches. You win the game by crossing home plate from 3b more than your opponent. If you can’t score you can’t win.

Yes, one must score runs to win a game...
One needs to strike out the batters on the other team also.

The job of GM of a baseball team is definitely above my pay grade... :D

Nope, you just have to score one more run than the opponent. Pitching is nice but there’s not many impressive active ones out there on the market. It’s truly amazing how bad many MLB pitchers are today and how many struggle to hit the corners of the plate. Fielding is nice and makes for some great highlights but the game is won by scoring runs. IMO the team philosophy should revolve around it. I’m not saying HR, just get on base with less than two outs and then move the runner over. Hit opposite field for gosh sakes.

The Braves definitely need pitching all the way around. Baseball is the one team sport where one player can dominate the game. This is not true in the other three of the big four (football, basketball, hockey). Although a great goalkeeper is close in hockey. It looks to me like run production is not the biggest issue although they did not show up in this series. I think this team produced a lot of offense this year. The young players will get a better eye and bat smarter with experience one would think. I agree run production was a problem in the 90's when the Braves had the best pitching staff ever assembled. Those teams should have easily had at least three World Series rings but they could not plate runs and Bobby Cox never managed a base running run in all his years. You are all correct you only need one run to win but you have to keep the opponent from scoring two. The problem with pitching duels is they are a boring part of a pretty boring game to start with. I think that is a reason people love high scoring games is they are definitely more entertaining but that doesn't necessarily lead to wins. Todays pitchers are too specialized. Managers did not pull starters because the batter hits ten points higher against right handers. Cy Young did not have set up men, middle inning relief, closers he pitched the whole damn game. Good pitching trumps good hitting. JMO.

This will surprise nobody but the Boston Red Sox won the World Series. I still think the Braves would have beat them (yeah, right).

So, who is ready for a Braves 2019 thread?
