Am I wrong for being angry?

I am so :rant and I think I have a right to be. So son is playing in a tournament this weekend. Suggested heat temp for Saturday is 106*. He plays at 11am and at 3pm. The park he is playing at says that no coolers are allowed. WHAT?!?!?! I went postal to our coach. I said that is just not right that they expect parents to buy their concession water when I can bring my own. I called the park to confirm this and the director said yes, no coolers allowed. I asked..well since it is going to be over 100* are any concessions being made? His response..um no I said well let me inform you as a parent, my top priority is to keep my child hydrated and if my son or any other child from our team falls out on the field, you will have a big problem on your hands. His response..we will be selling water at our concession stand. I went postal on him and then called our coach and told him that I am bringing a cooler and if
they tell me that I can't bring in water for my son, then I will take my son and go home.. His health is not worth the rizk!

Um, not NO but HELL TO THE NO!!!! I'd come to back you up but I gotta move the child..... Buy a big old shoulder bag purse and fill it with plastic baggies filled with ice and water bottles. Arsehats!

Yeah I have my purse type cooler handy also and will take that in also. Just burns me up that they are charging a gate fee of 5.00 per person on top of not letting you bring in your cooler..just stupid!

well they said no coolers... so bring a card board box or a grocery bag or better yet a big purse

I've been to a lot of tournaments over the years. Outside coolers are, for the most part, never allowed. However, I've never heard of a park not allowing players to have water for themselves in the dugout.

If they are not allowing the players to keep water on hand, they have a huge liability, IMO.

Pft. Bring water. That is insane. Do what Cheezy said. Large bag with your stuff. Do you have a large beach bag? If not come get one! Put ice and water in the bottom and random stuff on top. They said no coolers. Not a cooler. Keep a cooler in your car with more ice and water to replenish. Where is the tournament?

Having been on the other side of this (with the booster club) I understand that these tournaments are fund raisers. In most cases, the organization sponsoring the tournament keeps the gate fees and the host park/school is allowed to keep the money from any concession sales.

But again, the players should either be allowed to bring in a water supply or be PROVIDED water by the facility.

I think the coach said they are providing the coolers with water in the dugout with little paper cups for them to drink. We have played in alot of parks and we have always brought our coolers. I just think if they are charging a gate fee, they should allow coolers in. They will still sell food, just not as many drinks. I have my should bag cooler ready to go. I'll get it in one way or another..haha Our coach said he is bringing a huge team cooler for the dugout anyways and they better not try and stop him lol

See my other post. Different organizations get the funds.

I guess we've done it for so long now, that I just accept it.

Many of our tournaments nowadays are Perfect Game tournaments. They are proud of what they do. They charge $10 per person to attend a game! (This is in addition to the team fees we pay with our team dues.)

We have some friends that always pay their admission in pennies! :laugh

Oh yeah I get that and understand that but I still think it is wrong to not allow you to bring your own. A lot of people can't afford concession prices and can buy the water much cheaper on their own (ME!). But I will fix it..I will just put my big cooler in the car full of ice, gatorade, water and snacks for the boys if they need something. I will take in my purse type cooler with enough to get through the first game then we can move to the car and let them rest and cool off and eat lunch...then for the next game I will reload my cooler =) Now we are waiting to find out if they are going to make us pay the gate fee when we go back for the 2nd game. If they do, there are going to be some hacked off parents on our team

It is funny. Last summer, we were at one game that was called for a storm before we ever started playing. They told us to see the person at the gate to get our money back. When our friend went to the gate, the girl gave her back her bag of pennies. :laugh

No coolers with the spectators? ... sucks but I get it.

No coolers with the players? ... try to stop me.

All the parks where we play football are the same. You can have a team cooler for the players, but no spectator coolers.

One made me pour out my McDonald's coffee at the gate or finish it before I went in (had to be there at 8am on a Saturday!!!).

I'm so glad my son's played rec soccer, then for the school ... but not travel ball. Way too intense for me, too many rules, and waaaayyyy too costly!.

I am concerned for the safety of the kids at 100 plus degrees...if it gets to 106- yuck!

Stay cool and safe! :love

The parents of these kids need to make sure their children are well hydrated before the games begin. A lot of people fail to realize that anything with caffeine will make you dehydrate. Drink water, lots of it.

This might sound bad, but I would have taken my kid and left. Really. I understand they want to sell water/soda, which half the time is warm because it was underestimated how much they would sell, but you do not have me pour out my coffee. Now for years I have gone to the Austin Middle School games and I will say not once have I been asked to do that. (and every single week I have my Starbucks travel mug with me. :)) )

It was actually at a McEachern game. I had taken it with me because I was almost done and wanted to finish. I did finish. Then REFUSED my family ANY purchases at their precious concession stand. They lost more money by making me finish my last few sips at the gate.
