2021 Allatoona fishing tally

I’m starting a new thread this year to tally results from our fishing outings on Lake Allatoona (aka the Dead Sea).

Today was our first outing for the year. We set in at Blockhouse around 2pm and left just before dark. I know that’s a late start but we had things to do earlier in the day and any time on the lake is better than none. Water level is down about 12-15ft but it was higher than our last trip in 2020. Water temp about 55 degrees and only a slight breeze. We did a little jig fishing for crappie then eventually swapped to bass fishing. What a beautiful day in the water, it only got cool when we were running about 50mph in the open areas.

Tally after first trip: 0-1

Side note: We did get checked by the game warden for the first time. They pulled their boat right up to ours then one officer boarded ours until he was finished checking our licenses and documentation.

How's the boat doing?
It ran like a top. We replaced the throttle cable after the last trip so she gets up on plane quickly and efficiently now. We also added another fish finder so we have one on both ends now. I’m still looking for the fish catcher though.

Bring the map over some time and I'll show you my honey holes. Better yet, when I get whole again, let's go fishing and I'll show you.

I used to fish on Allatoona with my neighbor. We used to catch a lot of striped bass not far from the damn near the marina.

This thread reminded me of trolling for white bass at Allatoona when I was a child. It made me want to spend a day with my brother trying it again. Anyone know where the best boat ramp is close to the Etowah and Little River channels? I might try to go later this month or early April. Parking is an issue the truck and trailer are pretty long together (over 40'). I have been to the lake for boating and swimming last year but not fishing. I put in at Bartow Beach, nice ramp, security patrol, deep water, not crowded but a long way from the upper channels for white bass runs. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

I started this thread not only for everyone’s fish outings but also to continue the ongoing saga of the Dead Sea nickname for Lake Allatoona. I haven’t fished in years until last year when I again got infected with the Fishing Virus (not to be confused with COVID-19). I’ve done most of my fishing from the bank and in small lakes and ponds so tackling the Dead Sea has been challenging but I am determined to solve its riddle.

There are actually lots of fish in the 'Toona, but the rules are different there.

Wow, I've been checked several times but never ever boarded. They need permission or probable cause unless you invite them aboard. A boat is treated the same as a car for that purpose.

As for the dead sea, I've only had luck with stripers in the deep and some smalls up in the creeks.

That was my thought too but I wasn’t going to argue or be confrontational. Funny though, he didn’t even check the live-well. He asked if we had any luck to which we replied, “not even a bite.” I guess he could sense we were telling the truth. I wish I could have proudly proclaimed “does a bear....”
