I went to college but never finished. I just took my love of computers and got a Systems Admin job back in the early 90s at a bank. A company came into the bank to upgrade our network and I eventually went to work for them in 1996. I started at 25k a year back then. Now I have over 20 years of experience which trumps most new college graduates and I make 6 figures. I worked hard to get where I am and I still love what I do.
The bottom line for me was that I did not like college. I was bored, fell asleep in class, I just knew I was not going to finish. Not everyone is college material. I told my kids NOT to get any student loans. Even if you just take 2 classes at a time to be able to afford paying for classes and living at home is way better than having to pay all your earnings back to a student loan later.
