aka "The Jackal"
He is at a NATO Summit, and spoke briefly about Ukraine. Basically, he agreed to throw our taxpayer money at the "problem". But that's not why I'm here.
He also spoke about ISIS. He broke it down into three stages.
1) provide air support, training, and weapons for Iraqi forces when appropriate, as well as humanitarian aid to the Iraqi people cornered by ISIS. I'm good with that. ISIS has foolishly presented a military front, which we can deal with. This won't last long, they are smarter than that.
2) Work with our "Allies" in the region to provide necessary ground forces outside IRAQ. When pushed, he mentioned "moderates" within the Syrian Rebel groups. I am not OK with that. There is no such thing, and I give you my personal guarantee that these weapons we provide them will be used against us at some point in the future. Probably the near future at the hands of ISIS.
3) He acknowledged that you cannot crush a borderless terrorist group using air strikes and military ground forces, but said that we will seek out the remnants of ISIS and destroy them "like we did with the remnants of al Qaeda"... wait a minute...did he really say that? Does he really expect anyone to believe that al Qaeda is reduced to mere remnants? Our president is living in a fantasy land. ISIS WAS ORIGINALLY AN AL QAEDA GROUP IN IRAQ YOU MORON!!! This is the rebirth of al Qaeda, and he is too stupid to realize it. This perfectly expresses my point that after over 10 years and tens of thousands of deaths in overseas military actions, we are no closer to defeating al Qaeda or radical Islam than we were on September 11, 2001. What he is proposing is EXACTLY what we started out doing in the region, and what Russia tried for a decade before us.
Radical Islam is not dead. Al Qaeda is not mere "remnants". Just like that bad contractor, they have simply run into the hills to reemerge under a new name doing the exact same evil. It's an endless cycle. We are apparently going to repeat history once again rather than learn from it. I wonder what the next iteration of radical Islam will call themselves?
