Vacation Plans

Where do you plan to vacation this spring/summer. I always talk about it, so you already know about the Reacher Creatures, so where do you plan on going?

It's getting closer ;D

:DN

Hilton Head in July (annual tradition with the family), and then a driving tour of the west (Colorado/New Mexico and the San Juan Mountains) in August.

I get to pick the next driving tour (although I'm sure I'll enjoy this one)...I can't decide if I want to do New England/Eastern Canada, or perhaps Canada East to West, or the PCH from San Diego to Seattle. I'm leaning towards the last one. Prolly be a couple of years, though...we like to vary things.

Vacations are a staple of life in our family. I know people who NEVER go on vacations at all. A friend of mine went to Toccoa for her 10th wedding anniversary...only trip they've ever taken that wasn't a family reunion since they've been married. Which is fine if that's what they like (they can afford to travel...they just don't). But MAN, I would shrivel up and die if that were my life. (For more reasons than that, but that's a whole 'nother story. And yes, I meant to say 'nother. heh) Even if you don't go far, I think vacations are important to recharge a person physically and mentally and emotionally.

Now, my family was NOT wealthy when we were growing up...in fact, looking back, I think we were darn near poor. Yet, when we were kids, our family took rambling, nomadic vacations every year...by the time I was 10, I had been to Canada and Mexico and probably half of the 50 states. We stayed in inexpensive lodgings and camped a LOT. I wouldn't take anything for that! It broadened us so much to see the rest of the country. Now, I'm only lacking four states (Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Hawaii...and oddly, I don't care if I don't make it to Hawaii...there's lots of other places I'd rather go).

OK, climbing down from my vacation soapbox. :-[

Mrs. Mac and I love to travel. Our plans are a bit foggy, based on our move, house hunting, house selling, my looking for a job in a new city, etc. But we are planning to visit Ireland/Scotland this summer. There may be more trips, just not sure at this point.

We have to go to California for my sister's wedding. I'm guessing between that and a few camping trips to Allatoona, that will be it.

The family is going to Panama City for spring break. I have a conference in AZ later in April. It would take me a long time to catch up on work if I'm away from the office for two weeks in one month.

We usually take 3 or 4 trips a year, just long 4-5 day weekends. This year we have no plans in stone since we will have BabyB. I would like to take him to Ohio to meet the rest of my family but I don't know that traveling with a 6 week old that far is a good idea.

MrB thinks we will be going to Chicogo with BabyB, but he will be 10 weeks then, and still that is probably too little, LOL.

Most definately we will go the beach later in the summer I am sure. I HAVE to go the beach at least once a year. IDK & IDC which beach. Hopefully we can take the parents to babysit, lol.

I don't know if it was an "old school" thing or not, but my parents NEVER went on vacation. My mother and I would drive from Ohio to see my sister in Tennessee about once a year, but that was it. I didn't think anything about it, simply because that's how it was.

I was 18 years old when my brother moved to Fort Walton Beach and that was the first time I ever visited the ocean. Maybe since I was never used to going on vacation, that explains why it doesn't take much to excite me about it...and it doesn't even have to be an exotic location. I'm perfectly happy with an American beach. Oh, and being free from work for about a week or 10 days. Heck, even if you like your job, 52 straight weeks of it is too much to ask without a break.

Def. not old school...my Daddy was as old school as they come, and he was all about travel.

Maybe it was just that my Dad had his fill of travel once he got back from assisting in the liberation of a bunch of ungrateful French Fries from their German guests.

Sounds like a diff. in personalities...my Daddy served in the Pacific during WWII and I think that's what whetted his appetite for travel. Funny how the two men responded, huh? I gotta tell you - Tom Brokaw might be a nertz, but he was right about that one thing...they truly were the Greatest Generation.

I think so. That's when men were men and women were......glad of it.

I hate the beach, so I think I'm going to Antarctica for a couple of weeks because I love the cold weather and snow.

Get this - at my father's funeral (with full military rites...it was awesome), I was talking to one of his friends who had been in Europe during the war, and asked where he served. He said, "I was in the Army." I said, "Oh, really? Where did your unit fight?" He said (as if this were nothing), "Oh, I was just with the 10th Mountain Division." SAY WHAT?!?!? The 10th Mountain Division saw some of the bloodiest action of the war...went right through brutal mountain terrain in Italy and ran the Germans right out of it. But he said it like oh, I was at the hardware store. WOW. I gotta tell you - THOSE guys (who fought in WWII) were awesome. AWESOME.

OK, I think you're a liar liar pants on fire (considering your rants against Atlanta Dav), and you can call me nuts, but I actually want to go on a cruise to Antarctica. I have recruited my 14-year-old nephew to go with me. Prolly be a couple of years. I know - I'm weird.

Oh, and Reacher - sorry for hijacking your vacation post rambling on about heroes and such. But I have had some decent vacation-y input. :)

We are planning on visiting the Mexico Beach / Cape San Blas area in June, one of our favs.
Then before school starts back it will be off to Kentucky to visit the in laws.

I think Antarctica would be a neat trip.

Really enjoyed Alaska last year, would really like to go again and head farther North.
