...it's all over for GA until November. I make a motion for no more political posts until the General Election as it's all speculation and opinion until then.

Can I get a 2nd?

(hey, I tried)

I'd like to agree but I just can't. I get too worked up about this stuff every 4 years. It sucks actually.

I handle it better than I used to. I would get mad and have to go outside and kick stuff.

Old age mellows you somewhat.

I despise election time. This year especially. Just this morning I had people in my news feed saying that they read where someone supports Trump and they had to unfriend them because of that. Another said that they have no respect for anyone that even voted Republican. It is just ugly and people get hurt feelings.

This has been a crazy one. And I fear that the real crazy is yet to come.

Yep, it's been crazy. And it could be even more crazy. There's a chance (small) that none of the current candidates running on both sides will ultimately become president. Clinton could get indicted and they bring in Biden. The RNC could work their magic and bring in someone else at the convention. Both of these aren't likely but certainly possible.

I don't expect the RNC to have a brokered convention, but I think there's a very real chance that the DNC will. I suspect that's why they have the FBI holding the e-mail stuff on Hillary, to give them a means of throwing Hillary under the bus if needed so they can hand pick a candidate.

What do you mean it's crazy? We have a self described Socialist, a former First Lady who is currently under criminal investigation for crimes against the State, A bible thumping brain surgeon who looks like he's sleeping all the time, and an obnoxious glorified used car salesman, all running for President...and the two Senators are losing to them.

Well, when you say it that way.....

:laugh2:

Romney is supposed to be giving an "important" speech tomorrow in Utah. There is speculation he is either going to announce he is a candidate or endorse one of the GOP candidates. I also saw an interview with Lindsay Graham who said that even though he hates to admit it, the GOP leadership needs to back Cruz in order to beat Trump.

How can he announce he is a candidate at this time?
Because it's the delegates who decide who the party candidate will be. They don't have to vote for who they are committed to and they don't have to vote to nominate someone who was a candidate during the primaries. It's what you call a brokered convention.

A brokered convention will mark the end of the GOP as we know it, they will lose many many voters and supporters. Sure, the elites and establishment will continue business as usual but the average "Republican Joe" voter will leave them. I'm not a Trump fan nor did I vote for him yesterday but I will vote for him should he get the nomination. The GOP continues to deny their shortcomings and still assumes their voters will follow. I suspect the reason for the increased primary voter turnout was directly linked to Trump being a candidate. If he is derailed too many voters will feel "disenfranchised" (I hate that word) which will guarantee a Hillary win (or her replacement). There are whispers of exactly that being planned, the GOP will rather her win than Trump...that says it all to me and should to others.

As Huckabee stated, "Let's remember that we have an election process, not a selection process."

One must ask the question, "Does the GOP really have our best interest at heart, or just theirs?" The ball is in their court and the people are watching. No doubt the GOP is between a rock and a hard place, I say let the process work. We can all sit back and Monday night quarterback the "what ifs" but the fact of the matter is at this moment Trump is winning and has momentum. Trump should reach out to the GOP, them to him, then focus on getting to the business of winning in November. Hillary is on the ropes, why risk upsetting the apple cart, go for the jugular while it's showing.

I was listening to a radio discussion among political analysts yesterday where a couple stated not all the states that have had primaries so far were open primaries and that Trump lost in the closed primaries. Long before the primaries began, polls were showing Trump losing to Clinton in the general election. I somehow suspect that many Democrats are voting in Republican open primaries for Trump. Keep in mind as well that polls before the primaries began, showed Clinton with major leads over Sanders, which could have influenced many Clinton supporters to vote in Republican primaries.

Voting in Republican primaries has been extremely high so far, while low in the Democratic primaries. In fact, in many Democratic primaries turnout has been below averages. Of the more than 2 million who voted in GA, only 600K voted in the Democratic primary. The almost 1.5 million votes in the Republican primary was much higher than previous primaries.

Great point!

Here's an article talking more about closed/open primaries.
