Why would they be recalled? For catching fire or for being hard to put out? I don't think there are a much higher number of Teslas catching on fire than regular ICE cars....it just makes the news more often.
 
No car should catch on fire unless it's involved in some type of accident. No thank you.
 
As far as electric cars have come, I still don't think we've seen the battery that will eventually allow EVs to replace the internal combustion engine.

Lithium Ion batteries can be highly unstable without advanced electronics controlling their charge and discharge rates.

Interestingly, the 2022 Tundra hybrid will use NiMH batteries instead of lithium. I don't think they have any advantages over lithium aside from being safer.
 
This fire occurred in Marietta, right?

Has anyone looked into what kind of electricity that they're using up there?


That being said....

I suspect that a certain 'Big Chicken' might be behind this.
 
The problem with most modern batteries is the energy density. There is SO much power in them and when something goes wrong, all that energy is released, usually as heat. If you are lucky, you get a really, really hot fire, if unlucky, you get an explosion.

We know how to handle having a full tank of gas in a car, we've learned the issues over the last 100 years or so. Batteries not so much.

I'll pass on driving around with a half ton bomb under me, thanks.
