So as a parent, how would you handle this

My daughter was telling me that a bunch of students had their parking pass taken away because of either being absent a certain number of days or having 4 tardy's.

My question is, as a parent, you paid 100 bucks for that parking permit so your child could drive to school but if they take it away from them, would you be mad and demand 1/2 your $ back since 1/2 the school year is over?

My dd doesn't drive to school yet but I was just wondering what other parents thought

Rules are rules. If that was the agreement when the pass was issued and the rules weren't followed, then you have no recourse. I'm pretty sure a signature is required for that parking pass, contract rules apply. ;)

At South, the students have to sign a contract. All of those things are included.

We made our son pay his own. VERY good incentive to keep up his end of the bargain! :)

If my child can't get to school on time or at all when driving herself and these tardies and/or absences are unexcused (and particularly if I don't know about them) you can take a wild guess at who would be refunding that money! Let me guarantee it would be someone who shared my last name, but not my checkbook! LOL

The parking pass is a privilege. If you abuse the privilege, you lose it. But, that's just me.

yeah I agree....the child would be paying for it for sure. One of my DD's friends is a senior and has checked out alot, been late alot and been absent alot and had her's taken away. She of course pitched a big fit she's a senior, what does it matter, she only has 1 class she has to pass to graduate, the other classes are just "fluff" classes as she calls them. As I told my dd, she knew in the beginning the stipulations of the parking agreement, but guess she thought they wouldn't enforce them...apparently all the kids thought that, everyone was shocked yesterday.

I say good for them, maybe it will make them think before the next time they decide to sleep a little late and decide to check in late

Grandson has one and if he broke the rules he would not drive to school. Kids have to learn to obey rules because the rules get tougher the older they get. Rules have a way of turning into laws.

They can get their happy little butts back on the bus if they can't play by the rules involved in driving to school.

I agree ...rules are rules....if she only needed one class to graduate then she could have made arrangements with the school to be else where during these classes that she did not need.....example library, mentoring freshmen....just thinking out loud.

I agree with everyone else on this one. If the rules state that it will be taken away with a certain number of unexcused abesnces or tardies, they they should take it away. I also agree that my child would be paying me back for the permit.

Mine won't be paying be back because I won't pay for it to begin with. She will have to save money and get a part-time job to pay for it herself.
