Severe Weather

NWS confidence is 4.5 out of 5 that metro Atlanta, particularly west Georgia, will experience severe weather tonight. Most likely timing is between midnight and 3am. There will be general rain and some thundershowers throughout the day, but these are not the expected severe storms. Those will be probably after dark but the rogue severe thunderstorm cannot be ruled out this afternoon.

NWS Atlanta has put the threat of severe storms with damaging winds at 4 of 5, and the threat of dangerous tornadoes at 4 out of 5 also. The Severe Storms Forecasting Office has at an "moderate" 4 out of 5 risk, which includes a long track tornado threat.

Have a plan. Keep a weather warning app or radio on and by your bed tonight. You may want to go ahead and set up an area in a basement or interior room. This isn't going to be fun.

Thanks, but he's here in GA, just a weather nut is tracking the storms. That's a picture from a news paper out there.

*The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued tornado watch 106 for much of the state of Mississippi. THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *

Guys PDS warnings and watches are issued on average about twice a year. This does not bode well at all.

My weather radio just alarmed and is saying a severe thunderstorm is in our area (large hail, strong winds and tornadoes possible)

Yeah ours too. Then the phone went off with a tornado warning. Looks to be passing just west of us in north paulding. Few more red storms coming from the SW too.

It wasn't the storm preventing me from getting any sleep last night; it was my employer. They have a system that sends robocalls and text messages when there are severe weather alerts. My phone rang at 1am with the robocall about the storm. Then at 1:30 a text saying the same thing. At 2 another robocall and at 2:30 the text again. Then at 3 the robocall followed by another text at 3:30. Then the cycle repeated itself at 4. I've blocked the number so it doesn't happen again.
