I was posting this as someone was closing the topic. I think this is a good thing and I hope LTD gets a chance to see this.

The Rev. Stephanie Seigh says she decided to invite troops to meet at One World Spiritual Center in Marietta after the nearby Roswell Street Baptist Church announced that it would end its nearly 70-year affiliation with Boy Scout Troop 204.
Seigh says her church's marquee now includes the message "Boy Scout troops welcome here."
Other congregations are using their websites to extend an invitation to Scouts who might be asked to leave churches in their areas.

In Grand Rapids, Mich., St. John's United Church of Christ is including this message on its website: "We Welcome ALL Boy Scouts."
"We don't know of any congregations in our local area who have closed their doors to troops they were hosting, but we wanted to be proactive and let Scouts in the area know that if that should be their experience, that they have a place to go," said the Rev. Bill Lyons of St. John's.

Well over 95 percent of the Scouts' charter partners -- churches and other civic groups -- are staying with the program, said Jeff Fulcher, a spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America's Atlanta Area Council, which covers 13 metro Atlanta counties.

Glad to see this article.

I was happy to see this especially since people know the troop out of Roswell. One World is close and I am sure their offer will be appreciated!

And, it will give the kids a place to feel welcome. Even if the church doesn't minister to them verbally, opening their doors to them is still a ministry in my opinion.

Great point!

I'm sure that the offer is appreciated. I haven't talked to anyone in 204 about it, but I have my doubts that One World would be a good spiritual fit for the troop leadership.

It's probably just the old fart in me, but I think that Rev. Seigh is making just as loud a belief statement as did RSBC, albeit in the opposite direction. One World was founded as a diverse, gay friendly alternative to traditional worship centers.

I am hopeful that the troop leadership will make the best decision for the boys. I know that is their ultimate goal.

What!?!? Are you telling me that WRC isn't the only gay friendly church? I wonder what other Church's are involved in this underground railroadesque gay child smuggling ring.

I didn't know that about One World. (I have seen it before just did not know much about it) I am hopeful that more offers will come in for the boys and they have a choice of where they would like to meet.

I'd pull my kid out of the 204 or any other troop if they met at a worship place contrary to my spiritual beliefs.

:( It is just the building they are using BS.

Troop 204 will no doubt do what's best for their boys. If Roswell Street Baptist can't help them, I'm quite sure they will find a Chartered Organization that fits well. I don't think One World is what they are looking for. However if One World wants to start a unit, more power to them. ;)

There are some awesome leaders in this unit, they know what they are doing. :love

Doesn't matter.

Please explain to me and I really mean this. You and your child (lets just make this in general and not truly use your child) believe in one thing. You both have faith and are comfortable in your beliefs. Why would you not let your child meet at any place? A mosque, a temple, a catholic church? They are not there for anything but a meeting, no faith outside of theirs is even talked about and even if it was, you have taught your child the ways of your faith. I would have no issue with a child of mine tagging along with a friend to different places of worship. (he actually has over the years, :)), we tell him his friends are like the United Nations, many faiths and many backgrounds.)

I've talked to my brothers within the NAMBLA section of West Ridge and we are willing to pay these yummy little scouts a good chunk of change to join Troop 306. We will be changing the uniforms to daisy dukes and pasties though.

Stop, you're being obnoxious. Thinking the popo needs to give you a flat.

Whoa whoa whoa!!!! A Mosque? Even I have standards. I wouldn't waste my urine on the side of a Mosque.
