How prepared are you for problems on the road?

OK, I'm a weirdo about these things, so get ready. In addition to my spare tire, I carry;

-Tire plugs and patches
-Air compressor / boost box
-Jumper cables (redundancy)
-Set of tools
-Tow strap
-Various wire, connectors, tape
-Meter (test equipment)
-4 way lug wrench
-Ratchet straps, bungee cords
-Tank of refrigerant (to blow up a tire in a pinch)
-Spray lube
-Teflon tape
-Various screws, nuts, bolts
-Rags, hand cleaner
-Short hex head sheet metal screws (makes studded snow tires in a pinch)

And that's just my pickup. You should see what I have in my one-ton service truck!

OK, granted I'm a trained technician so I know how to use all this stuff. But I don't like to not be prepared for anything.

What do you do to be prepared?

I have all that and more actually! LOL Where is your blanket, protein bars, and water? My air compressor will also jump the car from inside and has spot lights built in.
(My blow up tire in a pinch though is not a tank it is a can :)) )

Yep, my boost box has a light and cigarette plug. Can do much of a boost through that though, more of a slower charge. I also keep several flashlights.

When I say tools, I mean TOOLS! Power tools, socket sets, etc.

I don't keep a blanket, but I do keep a coat year 'round because my work puts me in freezers. I do keep a bottle of water all the time too because of my workouts. And I usually have some trail mix, no protein bars though.

And I keep steel toed boots, reflective vest, and a hard hat for jobsites.

I do have jumper cables, flash light, set of tools, probably have other things I didn't know I had. But, I bet you don't have pink Duct tape. :cheer1

SD, yes I have blankets, water (good for batteries too.) During football, wrestling, spring workout season there is always some kind of granola bar, or some other type of treat.

You forget I'm an HVAC guy. I have both cloth and foil duct tape.

OK, but is it pink? :taunt

Hey Gog8tors I have the zebra duct tape!!! I love it. :))

My husband grew up in rural Indiana. My car does not leave the garage unless I am fully prepared for anything! Like I can use half of it? :dunno (but whoever stops to help me will have it all to use! :)) )

My husband has put all that kind of stuff in my truck too. Only problem is even though I have a Blazer it still takes up too much room. Which explains why the 4-way wasn't in the truck today.

When the light comes on, I put gas in it. :p Any other lights come on, I use my handy-dandy cell phone. :D

What if the battery is dead or you are out of range? <<<< That is what I get when I try to say that. ^^^

Is your husband related to mine? I get the same thing. I mean, really isn't that what we have them for???

:)) I tell him that even if I have no service and my phone is dead, what the heck am I supposed to do with all that stuff? (Plus I have OnStar in my vehicle. You can't lose me!)

I carry more in winter than in summer. In winter I make sure I have some survival gear: warm clothes, boots, some kind of food, something to drink, sometimes a candle in a coffee can (for heat if needed), a snow-shovel... Basically, I need to know I can survive and keep my fingers and toes should my car get into trouble on a cold winter day. I suspect that in Georgia, most of you don't worry about this.

Otherwise: tools to change a tire, tire pump, scrapers for the windshield, and a rug to kneel on if I have to change a tire.

My father DRILLED into our heads not to let the car get below 1/4 tank before filling up. He said older cars often have gas gauges that may not operate correctly and this would keep you safe. Which even if the gas gauge is correct, it's a good idea not to let it get too low lest you be caught someplace you don't want to be either to fill up or run out completely.

This was brought home to me in the late 80s (?) when Julie Love was murdered. She was somewhere off Bankhead Highway (inside the perimeter) at night and ran out of gas. She was walking to call someone when the losers who killed her happened across her, and that was the end of her. Ever since, I try really hard to make sure I fill up before my gas gets too low.

I have one of the portable air compressors, duct tape, tool kit, jumper cables, spare tire, lug wrench, gloves, flashlight (although air comp. has one on it as well). My mother has Mercedes's version of OnStar called Mbrace...we've had two flats while in her car in the last few months while on the road due to running over debris in the road. They have given fantastic service. Plus, it was a one-time fee to get Mbrace and no monthly charges. It paid for itself with the first flat.
