I hate 'em! I really hate them! American Idol, Survivor, America's Next Top Model, now The Voice.

Seriously, they get on my last nerve. Waaaaay too much drama, and I hate that kind of drama. The only one I could stand was "So You Think You Could Dance". Having raised a dancer, that was a staple in our house. But at least it was entertaining. The rest of them suck!

I had to whine tonight to get wifey to record The Voice and watch Chuck (Thank you God for DVR's). But my back-up plan was Netflix on my laptop.

I don't understand why they call them reality shows. They should be called produced, planned and highly executed shows. I believe very little is per chance.

Agreed. It's just intentionally created drama.

I don't care for them either. The only one I watch...sort of...is AI. I watch enough to pick out a fav and watch their performance each week, then I'm done.

I don't mind AI when they actually have a lot of good talent like this season. I've never heard anyone refer to AI as a reality TV show.

I bet you change your tune next season when they announce auditions for "So, You Think You Can Fart" :neenerbutt

:laugh

....and we ALL know you'll be setting your DVR to record every episode of "America's Top Thong Model"...

and the new hit sensation "Farting With The Stars" :laugh

You can tell he's workin' up a GOOD ONE!

What can I say? It's 05:45 and I've been at work since 14:00 yesterday. Go ahead and get your militray time calculator and figure that one out.

I'm with you GD. I refuse to watch any of those shows.

I can't tell you how many people asked me if I watched "Dancing" when they heard I took ballroom dance lessons. Nope, never watched it, never wanted to.

I watched a little bit of The Voice, but the only other one I really watch every week is Top Shot on History channel.

I do not watch much tv. I did catch the first The Voice and thought it was okay, but I haven't continued watching.

Now THAT sounds exciting!!!

Then there's that other program they are planning on producing next season; "So You Think You Can Crap Your Pants."

I bet that one will really stink!

The only reality shows I can remotely tolerate are TRUE reality shows, like "Deadliest Catch". LOVE that show. But they are just recording what the guys are doing, and I don't think it would be really easy to script an outcome on the deck of a ship in the Bering Sea. Or "Dr. G"...again, they're just following her around, and while they do simulate the circumstances of the person's death, the outcome isn't scripted, and she's a very interesting person.

I LOATHE reality shows. AI/DWTS are scripted, and the outcome, which may not be controlled, is certainly influenced by the judges. Which I cannot even STAND to watch a few minutes of AI - sister was here the other week and had it on, and when Steven Tyler started talking, I had to leave the room. Talk about fingernails on a blackboard. At least with DWTS, the professionals are true professionals in an area where you can't fake it, and ditto the judges. Even some of the HGTV/DIY shows now are really irritating me with their fake deadlines and super-entertainment-y hosts/carpenters/landscapers/whatever. Just give me "Ask This Old House" and shows like that.

Like mei lan, I've watched a few episodes of Deadliest Catch. And I've enjoyed a few Ice Road Truckers episodes. I never got to the point of being hooked on them, but have enjoyed them. Mrs. Reacher and I have watched AI the past few years. I get a kick out of the early episodes with the people who clearly can't sing. Like Fox said, this year there has been some real good talent, although I'm working at night and don't watch much.

But there are more "reality" shows that I don't like than I do. Mrs. Reacher likes Sister Wives, but I don't. I NEVER watched Kate Plus 8 of my own free will. I think there are staged reality shows and others that are more real. They don't make any good sit-coms anymore, so what's a body to do?

I actually used to be a fairly big reality tv fan. Not over the top or anything. If I missed shows, I survived. My problem is that I liked the originators of the genre. The first few seasons of Real World were interesting. They were so much more real than they are now. I haven't been able to stand that show since the very early 90s. The other originator was COPS. I believe they came out the same season. (I'd have to check on that before betting on it.) That's one that I still enjoy from time to time.

The whole reality tv thing has truly jumped the shark and I can't wait for the next thing to come along and the so-called reality shows thinned way back.

I have a great idea! They need to have a Reality Watchers Reality Show. They could film people's reactions from watching reality TV shows. :DN

ok I have to confess that I love some of the reality shows. My daughter and I love the voice! We love Blake Shelton and Adam Lavine..they are hysterical. I used to be a huge AI fan but not so much anymore.
